How frequently do you visit Rimini? Because I would have to believe only someone who frequents the area could comment on just how much Marco meant to the region.

Everyone has different levels of emotion and each chooses to express those emotions in their own way. Just because you don't give a .... doesn't mean no one else should nor does it entitle you to be an ........

So you'll defend how everyone else expresses their emotions but attack how I express mine because I dont bow to the alter of athlete hero worship.

I don't know where the balance is between properly eulogizing the dead, though I recognize there is a spectrum. I'm not going to say what is normal, but there are certainly extremes to both ends. I'm not going to name my kids after Sic, but some might. There is an element of "athlete worship" (never heard that term before but it fits) sometimes while some actual human heros go unrecognized. This is something to pause and think about too. And a human tendency of wanting to associate themselves with the dead. Its certainly a complex issue. I thought naming an entire circuit after Simoncelli so quickly after his death may be a bit of a reaction, but that's from my distant perspective. In the "retire number poll" thread, I though it was clear cut that retiring a killed rider on the track was a given, it seems some disagreed. Its the same here with this thread, though oddly enough, my margin is on perhaps renaming an area of the circuit and not the entire track. But its neither here nor there. It won't effect my life much either way, and so I'll just accept whatever happens with these marginal affairs. Its just an opinion. And one that has no barring on the outcome or decision making process of those involved. Its just an opinion.

And I suppose there may be some precedent, since the Valencia track was named after a guy most of us haven't heard of, but now I know.

That's ridiculous. An upjumped 250 rider that won his title against noone and spent 2 yrs crashing every week gets a circuit named after him because he got himself killed. Maybe they should name the gravel trap after him because he spent most of his time there.

Better yet they should rename the circus of misano after him. It would be more appropriate.

I can see them naming a building,a corner,a grandstand, a port o potty but not a whole circuit. He is just a footnote on motogp history. He is not a legend.

.... you you ignorant ........

JK does this .... for one reason only.............TO GET A REACTION........to be honest I`d rather listen to Pinky,at least the guy has some semblance of rhyme and reason.

Could you please link me to that post because I have yet to see it.

The Ricardo Tomo naming of the track is a bit odd. It didnt seem like his career merited the accolade and he passed away years after he was finished with racing.

Maybe I underestimated the deep emotional scar Simoncellis passing had on the Italian people. Perhaps I have been ignorant of the way the Italian culture expresses its Sentiment.

I vow to educate myself on the culture of these people so that I may never make this mistake again.

I just set my DVR to record all episodes of The Jersey Shore. This should help me understand and enlighten my ignorance

jersey shore, well done. goes to show you how smart you really are. perhaps you can learn something from your american peers from jersey shore.

too funny.

It's a fitting honour to Marco Simoncelli. The Montreal GP in Formula 1 is named after Gilles Villeneuve. I reckon they'll still call the grand prix by it's name but also associate it with Sic just as they do with Villeneuve in F1.

The irony is my lack of respect for Sitcomcelli is based on my hopes that GP be a safer place where this doesnt happen in the future. The more they continue to let out of control ego driven moto 2 riders into the series the more dangerous it will become. Its now become passport over pedigree.

I dont give my opinions on Sic to try to be reactive. He was an ....... that cared not for the safety of others. Look no further than the quotes from his Dad about when other riders called him dangerous. He didnt give a .... and said they didnt belong if they didnt like his riding style.

The 2010 champions Dad said just as much but I guess he was just being a .... huh? I think he's seen enough racing to determine a liability when he sees one.

Just because Sic is dead doesnt mean I have to temper my opinion of him. Injury maiming or death are likely outcomes of irresponsible behavior, I' m not going to stand by and marvel at someone because he's funny off the track. The consequences are too high

You guys can continue to live in that world where personality usurps sensibility but I'll continue to use common sense and speak my mind
