how do most people rate doohan? theres sumthink about it i dont like? not him a a
person but his style i dont like but thought id see wat u guys and lassies thats u rossi rules xx think about him.

I really don't know all that much about Doohan, I'm a little young to follow his career. So I really can't comment on his style. As far as his record goes I don't know, it is a real tough call. He was there for a couple years when Rainey and Schwantz battled and he was always there but never won the title. Judging from that I would have to say he is a very talented rider but the championships he won were nearly uncontested. The only competitors to him that come to my mind are Criville, Biaggi, and Roberts jr. perhaps. Take nothing away, to win five titles is an astounding feat, I just question the competition. And by all means please correct me if I am wrong about this because it is more of an educated guess.

ooost me old m8, im gunna go and c my doctor cus yet again i agree with u

i completly agree fully with every word uve just said but i was to scared to post incase of a mighty backlash, apart from rossi wayne rainey is a big favorite of mine and he sorted doohan out most times, doohans style did nothing 4 me but yes credit for 5 titles and lots of setbacks on route to all hus titles must b given.
well im off to the docs now bye ooost

You have to like Rainey, I think it's a rule of motorcycle racing. And Doohan was there doin' his thing and anyone who comes back from the injuries he sustained and goes on to win five titles you have to take your hat off to. But for me, I'm a Schwantz guy. Again, I'm pretty young to follow these three all that close and I know that he only won one title compared to the other late 80's or early 90's American heroes I can choose from in Rainey, Lawson, and Spencer but ya gotta enjoy Schwantz. He had that style that Rossi has when he's really pushing, absolutely spectacular riding. The only thing better about watching Schwantz compared to Rossi is Schwantz had to push himself to the limit every race to beat Rainey, and Valentino simply doesn't get pushed by his competition as often. Hats off to every name mentioned.

i for 1 would pay millions to c rossi battling with those legends, it would have been fantastic racing.

I know you guys were talking about Doohan a while ago now. But I would like to say one thing If the man can nearly win his 1st world championship with a leg that should have been amputated and also missing 4 (or so) races well there’s got to be some sort of talent there?? The bloke is tops!!

Being from Australia doesn't make me biased (much)

There is no doubt about his talent level or his determination. As I said in an earlier post anyone who can come back from an injury like his and win five titles is astounding. I just wish he would have faced more competition.

Guys Doohan is one of the greatest-no doubts about that. For me personally he is one of the guys who inspired me the most about motor sports in General he is a true man!
If you remember the 1992 season-if you don't let me give you a quick glance on it.
Six races to go and Doohan needed to win two of them to win the championship. But then a highside in Assen-long story short-he crashed the bike landed on top of him and he's sliding down the road at 110 mph with the bike on top of him.It probably started to get a little bit warm because of the friction of the sliding effect and Mick tried to spin himself out of underneath it and everything span except for his leg and he busted his leg.In medical terms it wasn't something to be considered as a big injury-just a broken leg.lol
The doctors said he could be back on the track in a period of two months-his leg would be put in plaster and would completely heal without an operation. But Mick knew that the operation would get him back on the track twice as fast.
The operation took place in the Netherlands. It wasn't easy for the rider for sure-being in a foreign hospital, don't understand the language and thus no getting much communication from the staff etc.But unfortunetly the operation brought some horrible complications-the leg was dying basically.Mick later on said it smelled like a bad butchers shop. And the doctors said that if they didn't sort this out in the following 24 hours the would have to amputate it.Mick then obviously got really scared. He called doctor Costa right away who took the first plane to Holland-then he practicaly kidnapped Mick from hospital and brought him to Italy. Then he "enjoyed" some interesting 16 days-both his legs were sowed togheter. That is not something as incredible as one would think. He just attached dying tissue from the dying leg to large portions of living tissue from the living leg-the goodness was shared.
Mick was back on the track in 6 weeks-but he was definetly not allright-he couldn't even walk-he was on crutches and his face was green etc.
In conclusion just faith wasn't fair to Mick cause he crashed again...and lost the championship by 4 points. He said he had been very dissapointed then. But now he think of it as a god's gift cause had he won the championship he probably would have quit racing. But Mick was determined to win the championship and he won it incredible 5 consecutive times.
But after all those crashes(in his career he has had over 100 of them) he lost the use of his foot.So it was incredible that his rear brake was situated on the handlebars and controled by his thumb-just another proove few things can stop this guy.
So far for his track performance you could tell that winning was what it was all about and getting the most out of huim and out of the bike. The still known as "Doohan" strategy-do not give in a single session-be first in qualify, all the practise and demolish the guys in racing!
He's a true champion and a true man and I will always respect guys like him!

Thats an interesting read as that situation with his leg was brought up in the Faster DVD and you are spot on..

I respect Mick for that and agree a truly great Champion but as someone mentioned B4 put him and Rossi on equal machinery, who would come out on top?

Would sure be interesting.
