Melandri

ok it seems clear that Melandri won't be able to adapt to the Ducati bike. does anybody else here think that it would be a good move for him to Gresini? i think everybody would gain: Ducati could try to get a rider more suited to their bike, Melandri would return to a bike which worked much better for his riding style and Gresini would get a top rider again (Nakano and De Angelis seem a bit dissapointing).

is it even possible to switch to a different team with a perminent status in the middle of the season? I don't think Nakano nor De Angelis would want to lose their place in the gresini team, and a 3rd bike might be too expensive. I do think MM must have expected more of his move to ducati and that going to Ducati would be a good carreer choice for him. eurosport-commentators here were speculating about this too

but lets wait and see what happens when ducati has adjusted the bike for MM, it's still early in the season.

in my opinion it is highly unlikely that Ducati will be able to adjust the GP8 for Melandri because it seems not to be a just question of set-up or introducing a new piece, its more like the whole bike would need to be reconstructed completely. and i can't see them doing that during a season. Melandri's situation seems like Capirossi 2007 only much worse. what i also find interesting is that they are now considering testing with Bayliss or Biaggi. lets say that one of them manages to get along with the GP8 much better than Melandri, what then?

i bet he does and who can blame him. hes riding around dead last for what ever reason and probably can see no end to this. we all know marco is better than that !

bikergirl would be the best person to translate and tell us what the italian press are saying because she is italian and a marco fan. we may have to wait tho as she may be in labour as we speak, i know she was due anytime.

I have an honest question? Has Melandri forgotten how to ride a bike? Should we start calling for his contract? Has he turned into a ...... rider? Does he deserve to be in MotoGP? Why is it his “Ducati” is the problem; yet his teammate can kick ... on it, but not him? Sounds eerily similar to what I've heard about Hayden. So why the pass? Open for anybody to respond.

Seriously though, isn't it still a bit early to be writing Marco off?
It's only been three races and at two of those none of the Ducatis really did well, I think we need to see how he's doing by mid season to get a better idea of him performance.

Well in all honesty as it has played out it appears that his ride with Ducati has turned out to be possibly worse than Motogp Purgatory ..... wouldn't you think?

You are still stuck dissing Stoner ...... when most folk have seen that well yes .... " how the hell did Stoner do it on that bike!!??"

And its not just Melandri who is having trouble with the bike .....

Good question. I think that at his current level of performance Marco should not be in the team he is in (same feeling for Nicky), but this being his early days on a factory bike and on a Ducati in particular he needs a little more time (although i'm not optimistic).

I think that both riders are very clearly worthy of decent motogp rides, but the main difference between them from my view is this:

I feel that if Marco and Ducati part company it would almost certainly be a mutual gain, where both parties could do better than they currently are. I think if Nicky fails to hold on to his seat, the only way is down. Although the change could do him a lot of good, i find it hard to believe he will ever be in as strong position as he is at Repsol.

This is Marco's feedback to ducati. He has circled the areas the factory needs to work on.

sure, we all no marco will never win the championship but he is a top 10 man. either he has forgotten how to ride a bike or something else is wrong. mabe ducati refuse to build 2 different bikes to suit both riders. barros's interview keeps springing into mind

well i'm not italian but from what i understand it says that Melandri wants to bail out of Ducati contract as soon as possible. and at Estorial he tried to talk with Gresini (i had good nose hehe). and another option is at Kawasaki because they want to fire West. the article also says Ducati will probably replace him with the tester Nicolò Canepa (whois that?) who sets faster times than Melandri in testing.

Westy out for Melandri........I like the sound of that. AS two riders who finished close in the championship last year it'd be nice to see how they compared.

After winning the first race like if nothing had changed since last year when he became champion, Casey Stoner hasn't done anything right since. Rather than talking about tyre crisis we can talk about something not working in the chasis. Stoner survives awaiting for better times, Marco Melandri is looking for someone that will free him from Ducati. He has a 2 year contract, it´s unlikely it will reach end of year. The man from Ravenna, already in the Portugal weekend looked for a way to 'kill' the already strained relationship. Be it with the red bike he cannot ride or be it with the Ducati manager Livio Suppo. At Estoril Melandri spent a lot of time in the Gresini team looking for a conversation, a return to the past. He could easily find a place in Kawasaki, who are tired of Anthony West, but the question is still far from being solved. The only sure thing is that Marco will not race for Ducati for long. His place could be taken by the young Nicolo Canepa, test rider that currently rides quicker than the race driver. We await to see what happens in China, where MotoGP will arrive guided by Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa, leading the championship with 61 pts, with Rossi, third, only 14 pts behind and Stoner 4th, 7 points further behind. In a long championship everything still to be decided. Though some 'pawn' will soon be changed.
