The Ducati is generally regarded as something of a beast that clearly suits Stoners style and not Capirossi's. Will it suit Marco? I hope so but he may just struggle next year like Loris.

I'd agree with that call on the Duc. As much as folk were saying "he's on the best bike" I think much of it was he can ride a beast.... Not many could hence the other Ducati performances. Wouldn't it be a great execise to have a ride swap day wit all the riders, some riders would be able to cross mounts but some would shine on a certain type of bike .... oddly I have this funny feeling that another bike Stoner would have taken to victory was the Kwaka ( and not just because it reminds me of a John Deer
<

)

I think I even made a sbtle joke about him loving red tractors, one appearing in a farm shot of him and perhaps a beast or tractor being a description of the Duc. It certainly ploughed up a few tracks this year too LOL

Melandri is a smooth rider.

very much agree ... thats why I'm wondering about the Duc. .... to me Capi. is even "oozy" compared to Melandri's smoothness, ie. Capi appears smooth to the point of treakle these days ... could be age?? But Melandri is smooth but with more agression so I think he will go better than Capi but not the same as Stoner.... unless ... he gets the ....., hence aggresive, with the Duc. and whips it into line.

When you watched Stoner, when he was on fire, eg Laguna or say Brno, he's wrestling that thing, its flying but its bucking and pig rooting at times. Melandri has to do that too. Some folk like bikes like that some don't ... I think Melandri will take a while to get used to that ... "this bike is fast, but its trying to ride me", feeling at first .... I think he is going to have to be a smooth rider who can get the ..... with the bike and wrestle it at times.

But by the gees! it will be good at around round 4 though when we see two young blokes flying around on those red Duc.s that look like wild brumbies ... flying around. Gunna be some good photo action around then too I'd reckon!! ...

Can't wait ..... but I hope us spectators give the guy a chance to adapt to the Duc. before we start selling him off ... cos he'll do it ... but I don't think he'll get on that duke like Stoner did and be "at one" with it instantly.

I see Stoner as the farm kid who thinks wrestling brumbies is a good days fun, so he got on the Duc. and when it bucked him he just said 'wooohoooo! lets play!! .....
I see Melandri as the Dressage rider, who wants to wrestle the brumbies for fun, but who will need to break some of his old smoothnesses to ride the Duc. ....

End of next year we will see a different Melandri .... I think he will have some "mischievous spark" or "snap" to his smoothness after riding the Duc.

Melandri was pretty damn good on a 990. I'm pretty sure he can handle the 800 Duc without a lot of effort.

Melandri has one big advantage against stoner.
Hes Italian.
Apparently ducati desperately wanted rossi at some point to have an italian racer on an italian bike so if someone said to ducati who would u rather win the title next year out of casey or melandri i think they would chose melandri.

That's rubbish! They wouldn't give a flying .... who won as long as their bike came first!

They will back whichever rider mid season (or whenever one rider starts making a break over the other) is most likely to deliver their best result in the championship ... that's business and that's all this is about!

Italians may be passionate, but sentimentality doesn't make money or sell motorcycles!

Krusty, this is Ducati you're talking about!

Passion and sentimentality sells all Ducati motorcycles. Narrow, tractable, desmo race twins is pretty old school these days, yet it powers the madness that is Ducati. Tamburini's pen made the company. Terblanche's pen crippled it. Galluzzi's pen sustained it. Fabbro's pen will help rebuild it. The only thing that never changed during that financial rollercoaster? The number of wins they were notching.

Ducati is about something less tangible than wins. A Ducati, built by Italians with an Italian in the saddle, winning big races at Italian tracks (mainly Mugello), is the ultimate goal because it is part of the idea that is Ducati.

Melandri will be the golden boy even if he doesn't win. Same sitou as the one at Repsol Honda--both riders get big support, but the man with the wrong nationality will always be doing a bit more leg work.

Melandri has to really prove himself in 2008!!! But there is one doubt and that is that I really cannot see how Marco can ever be competitive if he doesn’t keep his ride on the tarmac!!! If you look at Marco’s record in the last 3 years then Marco has binned it quite a few times!!! And now I come to the analysis of Marco Melanie’s future: If he’s going to be competitive Marco has to be straight!!! And also he has to be totally committed to never ever be in the gravel irrespective of whatever in 2008!!!...
Marco this is your best chance!!! And don’t ever miss out on it!!!...
But there’s one PROBLEMO!!!...Marco has Mr. Casey Stoner to contend with in 2008!!!
A very big order to beat “Our Aussie LEGEND!!!”...LONG LIVE THE LEGEND AS HE WWILL HAVE MM’S ARSE!!!

Think we should get some real stats, Casey vs Marco crashes & reasons...........recall casey dropping once or twice last season which earnt him the endearing name of "Crashey" - granted he's put that to bed this year , full credit to him.

melandri loves crashing and so he can have excuses throughout the season. he will get comments like "wow he is riding so fast even though he is injured"

that goes for tony elias too.

C'mon man, do you really believe this? Dude, these guys go off because, like Stoner last year, are always looking for the threshold of performance (traction, acceleration, braking, etc). Once passed, it is unforgivable and painful. Please man, I usually enjoy how you get the Rossi fans all riled up with your digs (not that I agree with all of them) but the reactions that mirror your premises are sometimes comical). But you can't really expect us to think these guys crash on purpose for the extra sympathy? .... man, don't you remember all the crashing Stoner did last year? He got it sorted; perhaps these other guys can do the same. Maybe. Anyway, carry on with the comic relief. I love it. Hey BTW, great vid too.

oops I meant to say something here ages ago but got distracted ...

I wasn't equating purely power as the "beast" aspect .... I was more thinking a beast as in .... hmmm ... finicky ... temperamental .... higly strung perhaps.

Not just raw grunt power or power delivery.... things like handling and braking even rider ergos can be temperamental.

Maybe Melandri ... being so smooth ( and on a smooth Honda ) might find that hard about a Duc. at first??

no melandri dont like crashing, but he does love people praising him for riding injured.

also gives him an "out" for not performing, he just say "oh i'm injured, so a midfield finish is a great acheivement"

I complain that Hayden got shafted this year because he's had to ride the joke that is the RC212V. A very close second is Melandri, who has been on downgraded Honda equipment every season since scoring second place in 2005.

Melandri has more wins than anyone on a Honda. Hayden has more world championships (real world championships) than anyone on a Honda. Who gets the good stuff? Pedrosa. Where the hell does HRC get off?

I'm glad Melandri is getting a real ride. He was furious in 2006 when Repsol hired Dani instead of him, and he's finally done something about it.

Will he beat Casey? Who knows. But being on a factory team will be like his first visit to the candy store. He deserves it too.

I hope Stoner, Melandri and Hayden finish 1,2,3 next year and Pedrosa is out of the top five. Fat chance, but nobody has achieved so little and demanded so much as Pedrosa.

Yes yes yes yes and oh yes! Did I miss any? The man nails it. We could be in for a real treat with Marco on the Ducati. Like it's already been said can he be consistent? But I needed reminding of how HRC shafted him so thanks Lex. Looks like I'm a Ducati fan next year. Why has Nicky remained so loyal to HRC?

Battered wife syndrome?

Anyhoo . . . has anyone seen anything that would confirm that Hayden had recently signed again with HRC? Wasn't he already under contract through 2008? Besides, he's spent a painful year adapting to the 800 and doing all the test riding in-between races, so he's likely adding up all his experiences from this season, hoping put it all to good use in 2008. Moving to a new team now would be going back to ground zero and starting all over again with a new bike and a new team. What with Honda inching it's way out of 250 in order to throw more resources at their Moto GP effort, one would reckon that Hayden may have hopes that increased attention and more bucks for Honda's Moto GP will translate into a more competitive bike for 2008. The size of the Honda paycheck has to ease the pain some too.
