Melandri just renewed his contract with Gresini. For some reason however it was just a single year deal. I would figure Fousto would want to lock down Marco for a few more years than one. Who knows, maybe it was Marco's decision to sign a single year deal.

I think it was his best option, stability for 07 with the team etc, plus, the bike isnt too bad is it!
Re: the one year deal, maybe he's just keeping his option open........I'd agree though that they should try keep hold of him.
Who's going to be his team mate though?

Marco Melandri will continue to ride for the Gresini Honda Team in MotoGP next
season having signed a one -year deal with Fausto Gresini.
The renewal of the contract was announced this morning by Fausto Gresini during the official ceremony of the 35th Anniversary of Honda Italy in Atessa (CH).
Riding a RC211V since 2005, Marco Melandri and the team run by Fausto Gresini have claimed so far 5 wins and 14 podiums in total. The 24 Italian rider, who last year finished second in the championship, this season claimed three victories and is still fighting for the Title. The agreement ensures him to look with confidence to the next season that sees MotoGP enters an exciting new era with the new 800cc rules coming into effect in 2007.

good news for marco, but it could also be taken as good news for gibbers too .... thats one less contender for his ducati seat.
Definatley good news for Marco Melandri ! and all his fans to he then will be riding pretty much the same bike as Hayden in the Repsol Honda team, so he will have good equipment for the upcomming season.
So for sure a real good contender for next seasons victory.
I think that staying with Honda is better for him and his ridingstyle then moving to the ducati team.

Fortuna is definitly gone for next year they say. Along with them so is Elias because he was the Fortuna poster boy.
I think it's a good safe move for Marco...Plus he knows that Honda is goingn to come out strong right out of the box with the new bike and give the other teams a year to sort out the bugs.

I've heard that too about Haslam, there was also talk of him on a d'Antin Ducati which is more likely? Elias didn't really do anything, he could end up on the Kawasaki. Do we Know who Fausto's title sponsor is likely to be? Where are Movistar putting their money now that Sete will probably stay at Bologna? That 2nd Gresini seat is a good one to be on, whoever is on it could decide a few other things.

NOLAN chose Melandri to do a TV ad were thanks to the new flip up helmets he could kiss the girls without having to take off his helmet.
So the ad shows Marco with a scooter stopping in a traffic lights junction, he lifts his helmet, he winks an eye to the girl next him and she kisses him.
Apparently this won't impress Katt. NOLAN will have to come up with something better.

I seriously hope that leon doesn;t take the D'antin ride, a ride next to marco would be brilliant, but i think he;s gonna stop in BSB, from what he said in interviews, on Sky sports at the last round of BSB, "We'll have it next year" were his words..... we'll see i guess!
