Yeah you are right mate...

I had read McCoy will be entering the 24 hour at Le Mans. Can't remember who is teammate is or what he will be riding at the moment.

I saw the article. His teammate is David Checa, but I thought they only raced cars at Le Mans?

Are you talking about endurance racing? Because the French round of MotoGP has been at Le Mans for the past few seasons. And they have been doing 24 hours on bikes for some time now.

I knew about the GP race but the 24hr on bikes is new to me. do they do a full 24 hrs? At the same time as the cars?

That would be crazy! The speed differential between cars and bikes is too much, it would be very unsafe.
They race in different weekends.

The bikes are SBK type bikes with lights and starter engine. They are slightly less powerful than WSBK because reliabilty is vital.

3 riders share each bike.

And of course a Spaniard won last time round.

The car race is due in a couple of months or so. It will be interesting too, Audi is fielding a Diesel engine car

That should kick .... Gas (Petrol in UK) era is over.

Yeah, VW are doing some pretty cool stuff with turbo desils in that Golf of theirs. 10 years ago I would have spat on the thought that desil would be superior to petrol (That is, if I wasnt 7 years old and in love with Tonka trucks) But now its changed, a lot.
But by the same token, the 2 stroke era is over too, Teo

2 strokes have been backstabbed, there was a fair fight (equal displacement) between 2s and 4s in the 70s (MVAgusta vs Yamaha + Suzuki) and the 2s wiped the floor with them despite Honda's best engineering.

They had to cheat and give 4s double displacement to beat the 500cc 2s.

Diesels are under the same rules as Gas engines in Le Mans, if they win it's cause they are a better engine. Which wouldn't be a surprise since the VW Tuareg Diesel already won more stages than their Gas counterparts (Mitsubishi PAjero EVO) in the last Paris-Dakar rally.

Peugeot is also working on a diesel for 2007's Le mans.

Both SEAT & Alfa Romeo are competing with a Diesels in touring car championships.

Of course 2 strokes and 4 strokes of the same displacement would be an unfair match. Its natural for a 2 stroke to rev higher and faster, so if youre gonna pit them against each other, concessions have to be made. Almost double the capacity was a bit unfair on all you stroker fans though.

The Dakar would suit a Diesil more than Le Mans. (Those VW 4WDs have got so much grunt they make Godzilla look like a gecko) But, like I said, diesils are moving forward. Its not the filthy fuel used in heavy vehicles anymore, theyve progressed so far as to use it as the race fuel in a serious entry to what is arguably, the most famous race in the world.

Just read the team of McCoy, David Checa and Sebastien Gimbert came in third overall, Gimbert put the bike on pole.
