<
Chaz Davies replacing Hoffman! crazy! Silly move by Guintoli in FP1 on Hoffmeister.. DePuniet crashed in FP2
<

Nice one Casey! Great work by Westy, and dammit nice work CV as well. This good be a damn fine race. Just keep Rossi out of the front 2 rows and I'll be happy.

MARCO MELANDRI (2nd, 1'23"597): "We've made a good start to the weekend, I'm happy. The bike is responding well and thanks to the new exhaust pipe the engine performance is much sweeter and I can ride it as I like around here. I'm also satisfied with the tyres. I'm feeling highly motivated for the challenge ahead and I'm determined to finish with a top result. I like this track - I was third here last year and after such a good ride in Germany I'm ready to fight for the podium again."

This new pipe has been the topic of all of the Honda riders. That must be some pipe huh.Made the front end feel better.Honda has hit on something in the suspension and they want everyone to be looking at the pipe.No doubt a good pipe will boost performance but i think its something different

Sometimes I think I'm just cursing the riders I pick to go well. Last week I said Rossi would run away with it, and he crashed. This week all the people I pick to be weaker than usual (Melandri, Stoner, Hopkins) are topping the time sheet. Meanwhile, the people I picked to go well (Rossi, N. Hayden, Pedrosa, Checa, Vermuelen) are having a tea party in the mediocre part of the time sheet.

One thing these times reveal is that Stoner is 100% for real. I knew he was great long before this, especially since I'm part of the hopelessly optimistic Ducatisti. However, not even the Italian press can deny that Stoner has what motorcycle legends have.

Since Laguna was added back to the calendar Bridgestone and Ducati have made fools of themselves at the USGP. This year they are at the top of the first FP. Sure, both companies have made big improvements this year, but Stoner is definitely the reason Ducati are going well.

If Stoner can keep this up for another 3 or 4 years he will probably match or exceed Doohan's numbers.

If dePuniet could stop crashing for one weekend it might improve his chances of keeping his ride.

Looks as though any home ground advantage is pretty much gone. The Brigdestone boys are quick and hopefully the tyres will hold up for race distance.

RLH did ok, Im quite impressed at Ant's performance, he is really starting to put pressure on RDP, plus he doesn't crash.

Is the temp going up for the weekend? 42 on the ground aint exactly cool.

I think your starting to get ahead of yourself, your forgeting the robot on the honda it wont always be bad as we are already seeing

I do agree....but...this might just be the time when these two great riders (CS & DP) can compete “in inverted commas” after all the excuses for Honda. As after this gp I don’t think the robot will have any more excuses...or could heeee??? Btw: Casey doesn’t have to prove anything in comparison to the robot in motoGP that is...lol...

true enough this season so far stoner has the robot beat but he did win rookie of the year last year it will definately be a interesting rivialary (spelling?) for a long time I think.

Interesting day 1 so far.

- RLH is doing okay...but Laguna experience is being overshawdowed by non-GP and bridgestioe experience....RDP and Westy will still out race him
- Duhamel is looking to end up in last place...yes he will get passed by Chaz...
- Roberts...well at least he won't be last and he's likely to pass RLH...
- Nakano will end up unemployed as a result of this weekend, given his performance on day 1
- Chaz wow!...good on you boy...and good luck....
- NH...well if he's lucky he'll repeat last weekend performance and maybe people will fall...but its not looking likely.
- Capirossi....well he'd better improve and support Casey on this race...else mr Melandri will get his job..
- Rossi is buiding momentum...
- Edwards looks promising...but we say that every weekend
- Hopper looking good...hope he can keep it up...
- Pedrobot is going to shock everyone on day 2 by keeping with Casey.
- Melandri well he will sign for Ducati...so he's going to help Casey beat Pedrobot.
- and Mr Stoner...WOW![attachmentid=2028]

I wouldn't set my hopes too high if I were you on that Rossi thing. He will be back today.
Rossi had an excellent second stint in FP2 (where he was clocking regualr mid 23's) but a real shity stint 3 (the last). Looking at the pace and not only best lap, that put him on the top 4 I think. (Haven't chscked the analisys yet but just from the live timing both Edwards and Rossi looked good, with a very steady pace.)

These days that bad 3rd stint can mean a bad test setting but more likely any number of tire related causes.
The limitied number of tires make the results real strange at some FP's.
They use worn tires and even tires they know doesn't work under the current conditions just to save the better ones for Q and race.

Also expect Pedrosa to be all the way up there. The Robot improve all the way to the race. Often even improving on moring warm up on race day.

Still, Stoner look very strong again and I can't help cheering him a little as well. He must be the gratest thing next to Rossi out there, and not only fast but also smart.

Even though I am a keen Stoner fan I agree; apart from Pedrosa also being very talented Honda some time in the near future will develop a very dominant bike and Stoner is signed for several years with Ducati and in any case appears to have totally burnt his bridges with Honda.

This is very obviously true but I think he will stop as soon as he wins a championship against the younger guys, perhaps even this year if he wins.

He is on contract out 2008.
What happens after that reamins to be seen.
He is still only 28 years old and could have many years to come on the very top if the motivation is there. That said, it wouldn't surprice me if he quit after 08. He got little mor to prove.

10 min out in FP3 and 12 guys under 1:24. This is going to be fast....
And C Davies is ON pace and faster than Roberts!
