I think Lorenzo is the main favourite for the title this year. I do not agree with what some say, that with Rossi injured he won't be able to be that focused. Stoner is the man he should pay attention to, and it is better for Lorenzo to try gaining as many points as possible with Casey still not in perfect shape. At Mugello, during the last lap, Stoner showed how simple was for him to pass Melandri and De Puniet to get 4th place. It seemed after those crashes he really wanted to end a race, he gave me the impression he could have a better pace but was not that confident. Then I'm really looking forward to seeing Rossi's comeback, it will be very interesting to see how Rossi will race with the championship gone (if that'll be the case). I expect a great show, like the final races by Stoner last year. But, again, this Lorenzo seems very solid, constant and determined, I think he'll be the new champion.

I will be amazed if lorenzo makes it the entire season without a DNF. The boy rides hard and wrecks hard. The big question is has he actually learned that finishing matters more than winning.....well sometimes. Pedrobot has an actual chance but he's got a long fight to go esp with dovi right behind him. Hayden's out, no way, he bined it and that was that.

Truth could be that so far Lorenzo looked stronger than he is and Stoner looked weaker than he is. Pedrosa still an unknown quantity but could get stronger now that Rossi is no more haunting him and Honda seems to have found a direction. Before this season began I felt Honda was being underestimated by everybody. So basically now with Rossi out it is going to be a free for all - let's see who will be more consistent and stay healthier. Watch out for Dovi, Spies and Hayden: Nicky has already won a difficult season like this in 2006 out of sheer consistency.

I can hear Jumkie creamin' his jeans. Not a pretty picture. Forget I said it.

I reckon the blooming truce/friendship between Jorge and Dani is about to be rudely cut short and the old (bitter) rivalry will be resurrected again.

Lorenzo looks to be the favorite. But as Mugello has grimly reminded us, anything can happen. THERE ARE NO "GIFTS" IN THIS SPORT!

My thinking from Jorge's point of view is this. Granted a World Championship is no doubt a World Championship, but would you rather win it with or without VR in the mix? In my eye's having won, but without the GOAT challenging you through the season has got to be a let down. I mean common, logically you want to be able to say you not only beat the best of all time, but you beat him on the same machinery. Though I feel Lorenzo has what it takes this season to win it outright, I deffinently feel a small part of him wishes VR was still in the championship run...

With all due respect, I believe your premise is flawed. "If "Lorenzo does win, he will have won against all competitors who gridded up at the start of the season. That some failed to finish the season by no means represents anything lacking, though I understand what you are saying. But hear me out, at what point does it stop becoming a battle against Rossi alone? The 4th race, the 8th race how about the last race? The fact is whoever wins the title beat his his rivals, it makes no difference if they finished the season. It takes much over the course of a season to win a title. Lets not diminish the 2010 title as you can see from the last four years attrition was just as much a part of winning as it was for those who failed to finish. Surely it would have been much more exciting for the challenge to go the distance, I agree there.

No doubt Pedrosa will battle Lorenzo as much as he can! Also Dovi. And Stoner. The last generation of true 250cc champions are all set to conquer MotoGP in the post-Rossi era, and since they were quite able to fight Lorenzo in 125/250, I think all of them are quite confident they can still fight him now. Lorenzo has the advantage of riding the best bike, that's all -- as long as that advantage will last.

The pressure of being elected world champion with 14 races to go can be a very big burden.

Yes - I'll go on record now and state, without a shadow of a doubt Lorenzo was handed the title on Saturday

Honda have clearly fettled their bike but Pedrosa doesn't have the balls when it comes down to the final corner on the final lap and it's a bin it or win it moment - I think he is destined to be the next Gibernau (always the bridesmaid)

And there's no one else on the pace (yet)

Not so sure. Jorge has basically had the best of them all in 06, 07 and 09 with his rookie motogp year the only blip. So far this year he is better than ever, i think the others are pretty up against it. But i agree with your last statement, and still think Dani might surprise us all

Some of you guys seem to be forgetting that Lorenzo has not "inherited the title". Nor will he ever.

Credit where credit is due ...

Reality shows that Lorenzo was leading the WC and in his attempt to try and catch him Rossi has fallen by the wayside ...... ergo ...... Lorenzo is wining title chase.
<

It wasn't due to luck, or the roll of the dice, the guys were in a WC series. Its racing, not Eurovision ...... Rossi did not keep up with Lorenzo.

However all we can say so far is yes we can pretty much say that Lorenzo has beaten Rossi this year, as will any other who surpass Rossi on points. But those others still have to do that yet
<
, and those others still may beat Lorenzo. Its just looking like Rossi is the first guy not to beat Lorenzo in 2010.

But hey, even though it feels later in the season ........ its not ... we are only 4 races in
<

Edit: It just dawned on me .......

the "Lorenzo inherited the title cos Rossi got drafted with Elvis to fight in Vietnam...
<
": is the new ......

"Hayden got lucky"

"Stoner had superior equipment."

oh boy, another year of yellow whinging

get over it guys he'll very likely be back, and you can look forward to him making a stunning re-entry into racing as Stoner did
