<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I find this talk of Valentino going to F1 hilarious.......surely nobody actually expects it to happen, let alone he go on to become a championship contender. Rallying at some level maybe, F1 no!
From what I've heard through the motorsport traders grapevine, Valentino is so popular that the revenue he raises through merchandise and memorabilia is so huge it puts Formula One to relative shame. Would it not be fair to say F1 needed the publicity? After all, the press went wild over the occassion, front page news in the car racing publications.
As for the flaunting thing, well we could go back to the good old days of plain black leathers! Motorcycle racing has taken huge leaps forward in professionalism, and these logos etc are more a case of clever marketing. Valentino fans will buy all the cartoon key rings, Nicky fans will adorn the 'Numbers don't l1e' T shirts. Moto GP teams are more than just a rider and a few mechanics, they are a business employing researchers and marketing experts. They know what makes the fan tick, and these posts regarding such logos prove they are right. Let's be honest, they have us by the knackers!!!!!
Absolutely!!!!!
I think you have the right idea. And rossi is obviously not going to F1 to take on guys who have been bred for it their entire lives, it'd take him 5 years to get the experience to be a regualr winner, by which point he would loose a lot of his status.
As for the Hayden thing, to interpret the numbers don't lie thing as a weakness of his showing through it would then only be fair to feel the same about every one of rossis little messages, celebrations and helmet designs. That would make him one of the weakest riders on the grid. But then go watch the valencia tape and that doesn't seem so far fetched
