Garry McCoy will make a welcome return to Moto GP at the Portuguese Grand Prix in October after joining Ilmor for their championship debut.
The 34-year-old Australian has been out of Grand Prix racing since leaving Aprilia at the end of 2004.
But, after spearheading Ilmor's development programme over the last two months, he has been chosen to race for the team by boss Mario Ilien to race at Estoril.
McCoy, who has won five Grands Prix, said: "It's great to be back in MotoGP and riding a bike with this sort of horsepower and speed.
He will also ride the single-bike entry in the final race of the season at Valencia in Spain.
The team, who have used Dunlop tyres in testing, also confirmed that they have signed a deal with Michelin for their race debut.
Ilmor will expand to two bikes for 2007, with McCoy almost certain to land one of the rides if he performs well at the Iberian double-header.
Spanish veteran Carlos Checa and 250cc front-runner Alex de Angelis, from San Marino, are early contenders for the second seat.
