take off that stupid silencer?!?

I remember hearing last season(during qualifing) that the silencer was worth 5 or so bhp and gave an extra 3/4mph on the straight.

I know that is from the 990, but surely it's sapping the vital BHP they need?

Why doesn't Rossi grow up and get used to the noise?

i dont think it has anything to do with "growing up"
rossi has never liked overly noisy bikes, why should he have to put up with it after all he's the one who has to give 100% concentration while riding at over 200mph
5 bhp woopy woo,doubt you could notice the difference when you already have over 200bhp.

How is 5bhp worth 3or4 mph. It would make pretty much no difference. Coz i believe that Colin and the other yamahas dont use one and they are no faster than Valentino down the straights.

I know the Yam is a lot below the 130db limit...they used to run the 990 in 05 for some races without the silencer, in the Fortuna team.

But in the past only Rossi used the silencer thing and Edwards who didn't use it was no quicker in a straight line.

i see your point but one thing to remember is everything is a fine balance.
they could get more top end buy altering the gearing but that would rob low and mid range ,they could tune for more bhp but that would rob from the torque. i think a lot of the what they tune and gear the bike is the best balence they can get for that track and the riders style on that track., robbing torque to make more power is not always the answer nor is gearing for a long fast straigh when there are lots of bends that require more torque.

I would suggest different aerodynamics for China...but that would fatally screw the handling of the bike up wouldn't it?

thats one hell of a prediction seeming were only 3 races into the season on brand new bikes with next to no data to work from yet.

Doesn't seem at all beyond the realms of possibilty to me.

All Yamahas use silencers. The 2005 Fortuna Yamaha team tested with cut pipes but ran silencers for most, if not the entire season.

Well if it hadn't been for the tire problem in Turkey, Stoners (and he's good) lead would have been 10 points less or non-existent if Rossi had made 2nd. All theory - it didn't happen. I know from being there how frustrating it is to be overtaken in a straight line long straight - simply because you're down on power. With good 15+kmh deficit on Ducati top speed, Yamaha are going to have to come up with something real if Rossi is going to regain the title - from Rossi Fan
 
Brilliant, Stoner wins 2 to Rossi's 1, and its all over for the ex champ. I love it!

I think it's funny the way everyone cant wait to write off Vale. I can see why a lot of folks are getting so excited about Stoners 2 wins. Its the same amount of wins that the guy they were shouting about last year managed all season. (Yes I know he won the title, it's tongue in cheek) And I think it's funny the amount of Stoner fans who have appeared. Some even have the same names as some of last yers "Hayboy is God" brigade.

Funny that!


The season is young, Stoner is on a charge, Vale cant be written off yet, Dani will do something special yet, Elias will maybe get another win, and Hayboy can look forward to Laguna. (Not a dig, the guy rode well at the weekend, but I dont see him at the front anywhere else bar Laguna)


Weve got a long way to go, and I think some folks may regret some of the predictions made in the last few weeks.

Me? I'm going to enjoy the racing, I'm still rooting for Vale, and may the best man win!

How long will Stoners charge last? the big question. And of course, Rossi can never be written off.
