If Duc. can't get Rossi then who?

As a second best to Rossi, sure. And as the third alternative they should consider a guy I know that dream of racing a Ducati.
That should make about three equal steps down the drain.

i consider vermeulen to be one of the better riders of the past few years
he wasn't that bad,the suzuki sucked and if ducati were in the situation that they needed somebody to ride for just one year until rossi arrives.....why not?
but i really think it was a huuuuuuuuuuuge mistake to tame the bike with the bigbang and then let stoner go
CV's career has been killed by the suzuki / kawasaki curse. He should have gone to ducati WSBK when he had the chance. It's not the best at the moment but it's certainly better than the crapasaki he ended up on. Well mainly off on.
Dovi is their best bet as spies is I believe contracted to yamaha for 1 more year and dani whilst theoretically available at present is unlikely to be let go by hrc on current form, although I don't know how interested he is in money and how susceptible he might be to an offer of lorenzo 2009 dimensions, or if he is pissed off with honda.
Sounds good - with P-bot's current form it looks like he'd be with honda. That would leave Dovi, whose performance is dropping off a bit out in the cold. He's not Rossi, but he is a whole lot faster than Hayden. Spies - I don't see him taking on anything as unpredictable as the Duc - rather (worst case) a 2nd year with Yam-Tech-3. The Vermeulen tip is one of the funniest I've heard - that's unless we could get a whole season of wet races.

Well in there lies part of my reasoning for Vermy. It seemed that the only way to get speed out of the Duc. is to go screamer config. ... in which case they need to find a rider who can ride a bike that feels/squirms like a wet race, even in the dry

Was it not just a month ago that Ducati said they were happy with Hayden and a contract for 2011 was imminent. Of course things change in a hurry depending on your last months performance.
I think he is too ,on the new bike in 2011.Hope it works for him as his patience must be paperthin by now.Good job he`s still young as there is still talent to come from CV.

Well Elias has had his go of a Duc., and got ........ nowhere.
Was more thinking of a rider who may "pull a rabbit out of a hat" with the Duc.
So are you calling it a no brainer cos you didn't put any thought into it
