Balaton Park, Hungary has been announced as a venue for MotoGP next year.
Has anyone been there before? if so, where is the best place to stay? Is Budapest too far away?

Google says Budapest city center is one hour away by car .

MotoGP is the first major series to race at the track, never been to Hungary before but that country and especially Lake Balaton are on my bucket list.

I'm probably going, and if it goes as planned, I'm going to the WSBK race, which is prior to the MotoGP one.

The most comfortable route in, is through Budapest, if you are flying. The track is about an hour from BP.

It also makes sense to drive from Wien, Bratislava, Zagreb or Beograd. If those places are easier to get to for you.

If you don't mind staying in the countryside, there are several options. Székesfehérvár, Badacsony and the north part of Balaton has easy access to the track as well.

That's great info, thanks.

I'll probably fly into Budapest. Do you know if there's a direct bus, or other public transport to the circuit area from there?

They'll probably do a test run for shuttle for the WSBK, if they see the need to have one.

This is from their site:

Access by Public Transportation

Take bus no. 7323 from Balatonakarattya railway station to Balatonfőkajár tüzép station. From there, it's just a 1.3 km walk to the circuit.

Trains from BP to B-ttya is about 90min. Goes often enough to be a good option.

If you plan to spend the night beside Balaton, go for the northern shore. And if you do, renting a car could also be an option.

Well, the positivity went out the window today....

According to the commentators, the designers of the track more or less forgot to add run off sections to the initial layout...

Adding those will be expensive.

Yeah, they did say when they announced it that it would need improvements.
A lot of people on SM were thinking it will get cancelled anyway, so time will tell.
I'll wait until it's definitely confirmed before booking accomodation and flights

That's why SBK was cancelled this year.

Surely they didn't announce this addition to the MotoGP schedule without ensuring changes will be made.

I mean I hope they did.

Quote from www.motogp.com

"Upgrades will be made to the circuit itself to prepare for the debut of MotoGP, and work will be undertaken on infrastructure and fan services in advance of the crowds that accompany the world’s most exciting sport wherever we race. Lake Balaton, the largest in central Europe, will provide a stunning backdrop for MotoGP – giving fans chance to enjoy top class sports entertainment in a spectacular tourist destination"
