Scenario...

You have been invited to a special track day watching two of the sports elite riders test two completely different bikes, one a poorly designed pig and the other a weapon that handles like its on rails.

Rider A posts the very same lap times on both bikes matching the lap record on the pig first followed by the weapon.

Rider B matches rider A,s times on the weapon but 2 seconds a lap slower on the pig, making many more adjustments to the pig than rider A, with no improvement, only managing to match the lap times of previous riders of lesser ability.

This is where you need to be honest, you are driving home from watching this track day, pondering which rider has earnt your respect, and which has lost it ??? :)

Your thoughts !

Rider B wouldnt happen to have 9 world championships would he?

A very thinly veiled dig at Rossi, did you think of it on your own?

This topic has been done to death, why start another thread?

and to answer, I would loose no respect for either, just because a riders style doesn't suit both bike A and B doesn't alter my opinion of said rider in the slightest.

Wait till stoner's tyres last a whole race and he has another win.

I was pondering the irony going on here ...... there are riders out there ( lets call them Rossi B and relias Z ) doddling around and whinging that they can't heat the tyres up enough ........ and then there is Roner A who is wearing the tyres out of late
<

Who does Bridgestone make tyres for !!??
<

Who is it affecting the most?

Carl Fogarties reputation was not significantly effected by being unable to get on with the RC45, he's still the best superbike rider of all time. I don't see why things should be any different for Rossi, especially if he does eventually get to the front on a Ducati (however they manage it)

Another cheap dig at Rossi, the guys won 7 championships, he's got nothing to prove. Put it this way every time I have seen Stoner in a scrap he has ended up losing out.

One more thing how do you know this years Ducati is similar to last years???? Do you work for them????? Also lets not forget that this years Honda's and Yamaha's are nearly a second a lap faster than the Ducati.

But surely you are aware that since Stoner came into the MGP class he has won the most "scraps" of all riders he has competed against.

What "scraps" are you talking of?

rather cheap dig than cheap puto

care to watch catalunya 2007?PI 2009?

edit : just to add, the yamaha and honda have been MUCH quicker than the ducati last year as well.the main difference is that the main riders results have dropped significantly

If you've never seen Stoner win you must not have seen a lot of racing, perhaps if you knew more about the topic your opinions could be more founded

Higher hit rate vs sustained high performance is a debate that can go on forever. Both have their merrits

We actually know that this years Ducati has been heavily revised to Rossi's requirements, so it 'should' be significantly better than last year. Lorenzo at least is riding fundamentally last years bike

If rider B can rider bike H or H but not D and A can possibly rider all three then I'd say ice cream doesn't grow bones in winter.

I'd also say that if rider B wants to return to winning ways then bikes from manufacturer group "J" suit him a lot more than group "I".

That said B either faces retirement or a push to get back on a J bike.

Or I (group "I" not me personally, I once made a fruit bowl at school, and the only thing I've made with carbon is a stain on the kitchen ceiling) can build a bike like J and then everyone will be happy.

The happy group I call "c". Because of the abstraction, its that "what if C-A-T spelled DOG" question again.

The unhappy group I call sponsors - a lot of money put B on D to run median positions.

It's like the eternal question, what happens if one synchronized swimmer drowns?

Its ok I saw that the other day and thought I would air it.

To be honest I would not want to argue for either case, as it merely would detract from the achievement of both .

I think you have put it the best it could be put .... though I would not debate it just leave it to say ...... they both have merit.

We`re at Laguna this week so why the repetive stocking filler?

This year will certainly go down as a small black mark on his career; however if things go right next year the comeback angle might make it look even better.

I haven't lost any respect for The Doctor as a rider. He has been incredible and everyone knows you can't win them all. I do think his struggles have added some perspective to Stoner's time with Ducati, particularly his crashes that some here had a laugh at.

Why bother, right?

(same thought)

Anyway, my honest answer: Both riders will impress me. If the other rider can be within two secs riding a pig, thats pretty impressive. Pigs are generally slow fat and greasy, and contrary to popular opinion, cannot fly. Now if he were on an alpaca going that slow, I'd be less impressed. I've seen alpacas run, and those fuckers are faster than you think.
