Has Rossi accepted his place in the pecking order

I think Rossi is being rather optimistic with this statement......which is a good thing.

Better than hearing him say that Jorge & Casey are too far but maybe, possibly we can get a podium.

However I can see, for the early races at least, that Rossi will be battling with Bautista on a factory-ish Honda & Dovi on the M1. Hayden's injury will hold him back from these 3.

Both Dovi & Bautista have a big bike advantage over Vale until JB works out the GP12.

The 3 of them will be the next step behing the 4 factory Honda/Yamaha bikes.

So a battle for 5th/6th or 7th is what Rossi, Bautista & Dovi will be battling for at the start of the season. On their day each of them may get a look at a podium but it won't be a regular thing.

I don't think Rossi is accepting his place at all, you've got to hand it to him, he really still loves it even though he has had a rough few years. He is just being realistic for the time being. If Rossi never thought he could win another championship in the future he would not be racing IMO.

Debatable, if you put any stock in the last test.

He's just being honest. He isn't touching CS or Jlo anytime soon but Spies might be a good target due to his terrible race starts and Pedro will no doubt lose pace in the final laps. CS and Jlo can turn it up at any point in the race but BS and Pedders haven't done it lately

Is he saying that so if he does lose to CS and George Lawrence there isn't a big disappointment? That, it is expected he won't be near those two? Imagine if he's battling with them under the lights of Qatar. "Lose small, win big" is what I'm getting out of this. Kind of like when I tell myself "I think I got D" on my exam so that I would be dumb happy with a B result, but won't feel dumb with a C. Whatever works I guess.

Fersure, it's totally like when I told myself I just got crabs from that whore, when really I knew it was aids.

he ain't the best ever without his mind games. they didn't tear apart the duc and build a new one so he could battle with spies and the likes. you know he's gunning to be a few tenths better than stoner. all this talk is to protect his fans from disappointment in case he has a .... year. if it makes spies/pedrosa battle their teammates for points, even better for rossi. but that's a non-issue as his goal is to win outright. like they say "talk is cheap". his comments aren't worth ...., imo.

I knew Rossi would not be successful at Ducati way before he rode it. But now I hope he returns to a sorted Honda or Yamaha. Just so I can continue making the point that machine package counts in GP. Nicky's career ended in 2007 thanks to GP politics. There are only four competitive machines in GP today.

Btw, this thread is simply part of the Rossi vs Stoner ....... fest. Just as easily a thread could have been titled; Has Lorenzo accept his place in the pecking order?

“In MotoGP I think that the fight for the title will be between Stoner, Pedrosa and me. But I'm sure that Spies, Rossi, Dovizioso and Bautista will do a great season." JLo

No mind game, no pecking order, just reality.

“I agree [third is up for grabs]. For me, now, Lorenzo and Stoner ride also better than me, but maybe with Pedrosa and Spies it is not impossible you know?” said Rossi. “To already fight for the podium would be great for us and a good base to start this season from.”

"Riding better than me" is open to interpretation. It should mean that their current riding ability is better than mine, but probably really does mean that " they are doing a better job than me because my bike is not as good and is preventing me from riding at their level." If that is the case then , there is nothing about him commenting on riding ability pecking order, rather 'race finishing pecking order'. A totally different thing. Knowing Rossi, I am sure that it is the latter. Manic neo-bops shouldn,t get too excited.

In case the Ducati does not close the gap fully, this keeps his fans away from unreal expectations and consequential disappointment (where is Rog?). If the Ducati is the full breakthrough and Rossi has the odd win, then he will be seen as the new messiah. Wait a minute, isn,t he that already?

Yes, as a title contender

Simple, this is a fluff piece and in no way whatsoever reflects the mindset of Rossi or his team as there is no way a rider of this level will admit that their opponent is stronger. No, I see it more (and this is just hyperbole theory) as a mind game played and aimed at Spies/Pedrosa as by his statement Rossi is saying to both of those guys that they are not better than Lorenzo/Stoner, something I am sure Pedrosa in particular will take complete umbrage with (Spies will not like it, but has said similar). No, it is a great little attempt at the famous mindgames of Team VR, but this time aimed at new subjects. To further my theory I suspect he has aimed the 'barb' at Spies/Pedrosa as he sees that both Lorenzo/Stoner seem relatively untouched by past distractions and so he (Rossi) is trying a different tact. The end result could be to provide major motivation fpr Spies/Pedrosa to beat Lorenzo/Stoner (and this take championship points) in order to prove that Rossi does not know what he is speaking about (as as to speak) Either way, Rossi does not think that he is not as good as the JL/CS of this world, and dare I say it but he likely feels (and should in order to compete) that he is vastly their superior Gaz

Pedro will be right up there in 2012! He had lots of bad luck in 2011 and if he wouldn’t of then he would have most certainly challenged for the crown irrespective of how CS was riding because Pedro is just a fast if not faster than CS and he has proven this on numerous occasions in 2011! And it’s his bad luck that in 2011 he was stopped from achieving this when he is back to back on a Honda against CS! But barring any injuries which he tends to have every year Pedro is one of the fastest ever (even faster than CS) so what Val thinks or hopes is just delusional or he’s dreaming if he thinks or he downgrades Pedro or Spies! And Spies is the same animal that wants to kill and achieve the highest in motogp. It will be very interesting in 2012 and I hope that the Ducati will be competitive and Val will ride the thing like CS did and he stops winging aand gets on with the job!

Scotty I say again that you obviously have more than one person logging in and posting under your account - this coherent post above is in major contrast to many of the other posts...

Rossi knows what he is doing. He knows he is the greatest. Ducati is downplaying on how great the bike really is. Rossi is more determined this year to win. He would never admit that somebody is better than him. Maybe there bikes where better last year but they are not better riders and Stoner better not be to cocky because Rossi will come up from the back and suddenly he is right at your back tire fighting for position watching your every move.
