Grid shrink caused by 800cc rules

You're talking about the cult of personality. I would confuse rider-oriented or rider-centric competition with the cult of personality.

No I'm talking of my take on how it was, the bike and brand was dominant right up until into the Agostini era ( possibly because he was the first to get repeated wins on several brands ) even pre Yamaha it was more "MV Augusta riden by Gioc. Agostini" as oposed to "Gioc. on his MV" , things were very diferent then, then machine was "IT" the rider secondary. There is so much of modern day ethos that is applied to "back then" that does not truly portray how it was.

Not really, a championship is a championship. But I don't think it will be because of the 800s, rather in spite of the 800s, since its very likely it won't come from the man the formula was suppose to benefit.

To my mind - that makes four years without a championship - in the 800cc era - orchestrated by

Honda - that much more a bitter victory. If they win in 2011 - it will be in soon-to-be extinct formula

- reviled by the press and the fans. The Japanese are very big on shame.
