Greatest All-time Choke!

Poised to win a championship, I would say Valentino Rossi in 2006. He came into the last race, last round with the championship lead in points and started on pole (no less). He goes out and dumps his bike under pressure. The man with the poise and strength not to crack under these circumstances, Hayden, through sheer determination and talent, goes on to win and earn the title and becomes World Champion.

There have been some epic chokes, but I don't think any would compare to this one. What do you think?

losal 07.
the defending world champ come in a sorry 8th place (could have been 12th) if it wasnt for the same old story(others bad luck) after all the trick daddy hype, what with tv shows all about him he buggered it right up.

Well I was talking about championships, not race wins. But if you want to count races, don't forget how well the former world champ, at the time "defending world champ" did last year in the opening round of the season. Oh, and don’t come back with “it wasn’t his fault” after-all, Puig would have us think it was Hayden not Pedrosa who caused the crash. So maybe Rossi didn’t have enough sense to get out of the way…

Amazing how many threads are being formed lately with topics that have never been covered...

Just having alittle fun just like my buddy Pete. Sorry for sinking to their level. I'll get out of the gutter.

Hi SDR, what's up? Uhm what do you mean, sorry I lost you here? Do you mean I'm gonna get drunk with pete and end up in the gutter? Are you calling us "drunks"?

I agree, he choked big time. When was the last time a Motogp/500 championship was decided in the last round? It would be interesting to see if anyone else blew it so badly

no man...I couldn't be bothered to hit the quote button. my post was referring to austin's post. I was agreeing with him that there have been so many threads in this forum that may look like tackling different topics, but they all end up the same: rossi-bashing, hayden-bashing, i-hate-rossi, i-hate-hayden...you know what i mean...

sorry if i got you confused and all.

In 1993 in 250cc class Capirossi lost the crown in last race due to bad tyre choice, he leaded the table to the last race. He was equipped with full-factory NSR250s.

off topic partly but Supersport championship last year - Curtain choked pretty badly (like rossi)...crashing with championship in his grasps.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Austin @ Mar 14 2007, 12:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Edwards at Assen, without a doubt. Poor guy.
Yeah that's definately my pick. Just a couple more laps and he could of won the race, but the pressure got to him and he fell.

yeah that one was pretty rubbish. as was edwards at assen and of course rossi at valencia. What about criville at jerez 96, that was fairly embarassing but the circumstances didnt help much.

I know Jumkie is refering to championships (nice try at a cloaked 'dig' at the Rossi fans

) but can anyone remember in BSB a wee while ago...................o0O

i think it was rutter (?)

who came around the final corner in first place with a comfortable lead........ held up his left hand to wave to the crowd in a victory salute, gassed it and then very nearly fell off letting two others passed in the process.

Actually it wasn't a couple of laps from the end Alex. It was right at the end with only metres to go. The guys helping him pick the bike up practically pushed him over the finish line.
That gets my vote too.

that was Sean Emmet at thruxton. I don't really like the guy so i thought it was hilarious, he won the second race that day.
