good weather for a ride

If photographs were invented in the Aussie penal colony days, I think all of England would have been committing crimes to get out.

Lol.

Capt. Arthur Phillip said something simillar to:

If those living in the hovels and slums of London could see the paradise to which they have sent us.

He was describing his meeting with the aboriginals of my area. They had food in abundance. .

Really enjoyed that Gaz. Beautiful scenery.
The older I get, the more desirable Adventure bikes look.

Having some british (pommy) friends ........................ many have asked why their ancestors were not theiving scum so they could have been sent and thus the descendants grow up in this joint.

Might as well rekindle this thread.

First pic is taken in the middle of the Bell River outside Wellington. One could say it is kind of dry (first time I have ever been this way and seen no water at all).

^^^^^ re your dry river bed ....

Went through Denman in car the other day. The riverbed was as dry as a bone. All surrounding paddocks starting to look more dust than stuble.
Got up the Bylong Valley and we drove through the heaviest rain storm Ive seen in years. Even flash flooding at Breakfast Creek.
Overtook the rain into the yumcha at Rylestone and the storm caught us again whilst we were eating on the verandah. Mini flash floods in the main street. Was magnificent cos they sure needed it.

Yeah around Mudgee seems to get the rain but a little further afield and nothing happening.

Hunter was low when I last went over it a month back and most of the creeks are dust but hit Mudgee and all is green, dams are full ..........

That was likely the day my place had a lightning storm, thunder and we thought great, water .............. and that was it as it headed Dunedoo/Mudgee direction lol

Not good weather for a ride...the greasiest and most treacherous I've ever known Doni. Timely change of front averted an almost certain trip to Intensive care.

Back in the early 90's I lost my bike at Goddards, it was trashed, needed a wheelbarrow and shovel to pick the bits up and I broke a leg and shoulder. someone else had had an excursion there and then dragged mud onto the track, which being a wet day I missed seeing, so highsided, I can laugh about it now as it led to my favourite track bike when I started riding again.

Horrible off-camber corner, although The Old Hairpin is worse - being at the bottom of Craners sucks you in.

Early nineties? - the surface was like a donkey track on Blackpool beach.

My expat friends are always moaning to me that in Oz you are strictly regimented when it come to speeding on the roads and that plod there hates motorcycles, especially the loud ones.

Yeah a bit like some of those Oz outback pictures :giggle:

Not always true.

Do the coppers push a massive 'anti-speeding' agenda --- absolutely they do and most of it is pure BS but it is the heirachy and not neccessarily those on the ground but they have little choice in the matter.

It is strict and in many cases stupidly so but at the same time, some of the rider roads are so heavily trafficked plus the proliferation of ......... on bikes (just because they have a Gixxer does not make them a Gixxer capable rider - but they do not know this) a lot of it brings attention to themselves.

Out where I am the cops are a bit better and will flash their headlights if you are above the limit without being stupidly so, as I am in straight road country being in the bush so they have a different battle.

As for loud pipes, well they do harrass the 1% brigade as every crime they (and the media driven mantra) blames on the OMCG (Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs) and so they justify a crackdown on the Harley type of riders. In past they have harrassed the sportbike brigade for loud pipes but to be fair to them, when I can her a 4into1 from 2 - 3 kays, then it is loud.

But, get off the sealed stuff or a little out of the way (Bonang Highway for instance) and you get a lot less harrassment or issues from the police and generally will get looked after ok. That is not to say that they are not on the dirt, heck I have come across an RBT (random breath test) unit during a 40 kay dirt sting plus they have been known to radar the dirt further west - but I have not heard any horror stories.

Honestly, the biggest issue is in the major cities as even those cops when they head my way chill out (in their own words) as it is a far easier environment to work with less ......... on the road (again, their words).

As for hating motorbikes, well yes there are some that do but they also absolutely harrass truck drivers and p-platers (new drivers) just as much but bikes get a more criminal element harrassment (referred to above) while the others get random vehicle checks etc.

I had a beautiful ride today to Palomar mountain and Lake Henshaw which is only like a hour away from where I live. But I got pulled over by a highway patrol and got a ticket for not having a proof of registration and insurance. Gah I just renewed them like a week ago!

Don't they have a link to online data re registration and insurance via their radio or online connections?

I'm sure they do but they can fine me this way.
If I actually didn't have insurance or registration, my bike could have been towed away.
