Looks like Cameron Beubier is set to ride in place of Guinters at Pata Yamaha for the Donington Round.

Reigning Moto America Superbike champion Cameron Beaubier is in line to deputise for the injured Sylvain Guintoli at the British round of the World Superbike championship, Crash.net has learned.

Guintoli broke his right ankle and took a knock to the head in a spectacular high-side during qualifying at Imola, the injury putting him out of the following round in Malaysia.

The Frenchman's Pata Yamaha team confirmed on Thursday that he has not recovered sufficiently for next weekend's Donington Park event - and it seems Beaubier is at the top of their list of replacements.

The 23-year-old has long been spoken of as the USA's next up-and-coming talent, but has not appeared on the world stage since the final round of his sole grand prix season in 2009. Next weekend should change that, with the highly-regarded youngster a key favourite of Yamaha USA and having long been seen as one of their key talents.

Coming off his championship winning year in 2015, Beaubier - riding the Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF R1 - sits second in the current standings, just eleven points behind team-mate Josh Hayes.

Crash.net previously heard Beaubier's name touted as a possible replacement for Guintoli in Malaysia, but the event clashed with his Moto America commitments. Instead, the Californian was triumphant that weekend in the second race in Virginia.

Beaubier is set to partner the injured Alex Lowes at Donington. Lowes broke his left collarbone in the wet second race at Sepang, but is confident of racing through the pain at his and the Crescent team's home round.

It'll be interesting to see how he does. I hope for Cam's sake he can at least be top 10.

Im hoping for way much more. This is an audition, the bikes are very similar and i believe he has ridden the track, could be wrong though. Im hoping for a Spies type debut where the team says we have to have him. If he is a special talent, top 5 is not out of the question.

The Yamaha was not anywhere near the best bike when Spies took it and dominated WSBK. Like i said, hoping, not predicting. But in all seriousness, if he is special, he will do something special. Top 10 doesnt get the team owners all hot and bothered, top 5 would have them salivating.

It's at Donington, near Derby Jum. I'm about 30 miles away, believe me anything could happen with the weather over here. One year it snowed at Easter for the wsbk round!

Im hoping for way much more. This is an audition, the bikes are very similar and i believe he has ridden the track, could be wrong though. Im hoping for a Spies type debut where the team says we have to have him. If he is a special talent, top 5 is not out of the question.

You may be asking too much. The MotoAmerica vs Wsbk R1s, are not that similar, but I suspect the difference between Dunlops vs Pirelli would be the biggest hurdle. Not to mention new crew. He's ridden Donny before, many years ago on a 125. Cameron also has to ride AMA next week, two rounds left, and he's leading points. I'm sure he doesn't want to get injured.

Lowes is a Brit, but let's see how he does compared to him. So far FP2 4th compared to 9th. I wonder how Lowes would do at Barber tomorrow.

It always rains over here. Back in the day when I raced Supermoto, the majority of riders fitted wets all the time. The weather was so changeable we couldn't be arsed fitting slicks and changing them all the time.
For those who haven't got the wsbk package, the races are being shown live on Quest, a fta channel in the uk.

Actually they are almost identical. Moto America structured their rules off BSB whis is basically the same as WSBK since they went evo.

Lowes is suffering real pain from a recently plated collarbone, Cam has a real chance of beating him over a race distance, even if it is Lowes' home track.

MotoAmerica has announced that its technical regulations for the 2016 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship have been published by the AMA and FIM North America with changes that move those rules even closer to the technical regulations used in world championship competition.
"Not a lot has changed really," said MotoAmerica partner Chuck Aksland. " We've tweaked a few things to get our rules closer to those used by the FIM on the world level, but we were already fairly close when we introduced our rules package last year. Now there's just a bit of refinement to some of those existing rules."

I like ice cream. But all we have is crushed ice. Well, that is 'closer' than spaghetti.

I'm going to China from Cali. I've arrived at Hawaii. Well, that is 'closer'. Except for half the Pacific Ocean.

A little bit closer doesn't mean "identical", it just means they've moved closer to the world spec. How much closer is up for debate. However, here is what Cameron said, who has ridden both:

"The bike is quite a bit different than the one I ride at home."

And...

"World Superbike has Pirellis—and we’ll be on an oversize fork and triple clamps and a little bit different electronics. The bike is going to be a lot different than my bike at home, but it’s going to be exciting."

Has Ben Spies given you any advice about this weekend?

"Yeah, for sure. He told me the fork and triple clamps are the biggest things that I’m going to have to get used to because they make the chassis a lot more rigid, and, obviously, the tires."

So I guess the bikes are "identical" EXCEPT for:

The front suspension
The triple-clamps
The forks
The electronics
The feel of the chassis
The handling

Read it again, he says the rules were very close to begin with and they made them closer, and i said ALMOST identical. The tires will be the biggest adjustment
 
In the top 10 after 1 day and only a couple 10ths out of the top 5. Very doable to qualify top 5 after another few sessions to get to know the tires.
 
The weight of an entire countries racing reputation was obviously a little to much. Didnt make it a lap. FUUUUUUUUUCK
