You may remember about a week ago we had a debate about night races and everyone else decided that my theory about them was rubbish. But on ITV Martin Brundle asked Bernie Ecclestone about them and he said that there is going to be one in Asia soon.

What do you think about the prospect of night races?

Rubbish, Having watched the night part of Le mans 24 hour race a few times its totally crap for tv. Unless they light it up as if its day time, in which case they should just race in the day.

Apparently they'll be hosting them in Asia so we can watch the races live in mid-day here in the UK (3pm etc)...not much point if you can't see much though eh?

I always knew Bernie was a crazy person. I hope he was only joking, cause I personally think it's rubbish indeed!!!!

The reason he gave for introducing them was that the main part of the formula 1 following is in Europe and having them at "friendly" hours of the day at European time would be beneficial for more fans.

He said the most likely races were probably China, Singapore (soon to be a new track) and most likely Japan rather than Australia who have dismissed the idea of it being their GP to be run at night.

Obviously the main problem would be the lack of visibility and even if the cars had lights and the track was lit it would still be pretty difficult to tell the cars apart.

Although it would be an interesting idea i think we are definitely better off sticking with the day races for now even if we do have to get up at 3am to watch the Aussie GP!

It just sounds a bit dangerous to me. I really don't see the point to have these kind of night races.

I like it the way it is, and I also like it to get up early for the Australian GP. Somehow makes it even nicer!!!

I know what you mean.

Getting up early for the Australian GP just somehow seems to make sense but i never watch the chinese gp live and have only watched the japanese gp live when the title is up for grabs.

I dunno why but its just something about the first race of the year being in australia.

Well I have to watch all GPs live, so also the Japanese and Chinese GP. I totally hate it when I have to miss a GP. So, I try to avoid that from happening, if it does happen, then I tape it and watch it later on without checking the results of course. My mum once forgot to wake me up for a GP, damn..I was so pissed off. I did set my alarm, but somehow I didnt wake up and my mum felt I needed my sleep. I was like ''who cares about sleep!!"'

The 1st race is always a bit special, cause it's been so long since the last race. Damn, you wouldn't believe how excited I was the last couple of days. I was thinking about the race all day, almost every minute!!

For me Australian GP is not waking early but staying late (it's easier).

But but but....it will be TOTALLY unfair for fans on our side of the earth.

See, the only time that it is really convenient for us to watch the live gp coverages is when it's somewhere here (e.g Aus, China, Japan, Sepang. Even Qatar and Turkey are fairly convenient).

Then, majority of the races, we have to stay up late (or really late if it's in the US) if we want to watch it live.

So if China and Japan (thank you Australia) + Singapore would hold it at night, it would mean watching almost ALL gps at night. I mean, come on, give us a little bit of consideration.

An Aussie pal of mine mentioned this to be the Australian GP, so the fans in Europe can view it at a normal time...also a night time street race was mentioned but where remains unknown to me.
