FIM must considering all-female-only motorcycle racing tournament in the future

Reflecting on the success of Formula W Series all-female-only open-wheel single-seater formula auto racing tournament that recently introduced in 2019, FIM must evaluate the prospect of all-female-only motorcycle racing tournament in order to attracting female riders, improving female sports including motorcycle racing and also attracting all-female-only motorcycle racing interests. I like the idea of all-female-only motorcycle racing tournament prospect and will be happened in the future as a MOTOGP support race.

That will have the same level of success as the WNBA. A great virtue signaling venue and a money loser.

Or we could allow women to compete against the men on equal terms and see if they cut it. I don't think they are prohibited from doing so currently, but perhaps they aren't encouraged culturally/socially in quite the same way as the chaps and therefore less females feel they are welcome to compete. Inversely it could well be that they just aren't as interested in a general sense, in much the same way there isn't a great demand for more inclusivity in professions that rely on physical labour.

Michele Moutin proved that they can be competitive almost 40 years ago. Nothing to say in my mind that it has been proven categorically that biology is a limiting factor.

I'd also like to add that I am very interested to read about the views of others on this topic.

Could be a spicy thread!

its more then just about the racing, you have to be able to sell it because it takes money to make a series work. unfortunately racing is becoming a harder sell, so it will be hard to make successful.

I think the best option for a woman racing series would be in Supercross, there are plenty of women who race off road, and there are plenty of female fans compared to other forms of racing.

I think a females only motorcycle competition makes much more sense then a females only racing series. I believe that motorcycle racing isn't 100% fair to mix women and men as males have naturally more strength to handle the bikes than women do whereas in a car it doesn't feel that physical strength difference is that important to the outcome.

If they want equality, you have to go all the way, not just when it furthers your cause. Demanding an all female competition in any sport is not equality if half the population is excluded. In the WNBA , it is laughable that they are demanding higher salaries based on what men make. If the men’s game lost millions hand over fist, the NBA would not exist. You want equality, you take the bad with the good. No rule or social brow beating can force the buying public to watch women’s sports

I'd argue that Dani Pedrosa disproves this theory. Given his smaller stature he found ways to compete using finesse, riding style and set up. He certainly struggled with braking due to his slight frame but found an equal advantage in acceleration.

The thing is that there'll be outliers and exceptions and we can't use them to determine whether females can 'typically' compete on equal terms with men on MotoGP bikes.

That's a fair point. There have been female riders in the world championship and although they didn't win much of anything thats more to do with the number of entrants limiting the sample size rather than any inadequacies physically. One caveat though is that they have ridden in the lightweight classes. Jenny Tinmouth has competed in the British Superbike Championship and didn't embarrass herself however.

It's really quite difficult to predict how well they would do against the men without more entrants, but my feeling is that they would go okay. Whether they could actually win is only ever going to be a matter of opinion...

Well, I've seen the Women's Soccer World Cup last summer and it was so much fun to watch. So why not..

I'm a big fan of tennis, but women's tennis I do not watch. Some friends do watch it, they said they like watching those girls stretching and jumping.
Anyhow, there is a small number of feminists who make lots of noise. And there is a world full of normal women who do not give a rats ... about it. See, they want to behave as women, they want to be treated as women and they want to do their woman thing - which is to keep men under their thumb. This is how Mother Nature designed it and all these social justice warriors don't realize the natural way is the best. Well, maybe their leaders do, they use this as a platform to achieve their murky goals.

But Dani would have more muscle mass and physical strength than an 'average' female his size thus still giving Dani the advantage.

To be fair, nobody who competes at the world championship level is going to be average. Rossi is hardly the average 40 year old. I've seen women boxers that have as much muscle as any guy in their weight category.

My argument would be that for his stature he proved that size is only one factor among many that enables one to compete at the highest level. A female rider standing a few inches taller may be his equal in terms of functional muscular power, however females biologically are lighter overall. Ultimately it was his finesse that enabled him to compete at the highest level with clear success. Surely a female rider could compete too all things considered. The key differentiator therefore wouldnt be physical differences, but whether or not a female rider has the temperament and overall riding ability to compete at the top level.

I watched Shayna Texter (all 5' of her) beat all comers in the Sacramento Mile singles main event this year. I was cheering for her. It can be done. Granted it's the junior class.

However, she herself says that her height limits her on the shorter tracks and TT events, where you have to muscle the bike around a lot more.

Look, if a woman wants to compete in MotoGP and finds a way to do it, good on her. I'll pay the money and watch.

But to have all these segregated classes based only on gender is nonsense. I am not going to pay money to watch those. Especially when it comes to racing. Whoever goes fastest wins.

Daft idea, give women the right package and they can be good enough to be competitive with the men.

Ana Carrassco(SSP 300 champion)
Carolynn Sells(Manx Grand Prix winner)
Catherine Green(British 125cc championship race winner and finished 3rd overall in 2012)
Melissa Kennedy(Irish road race winner)
Anita Buxton (Ulster GP 400cc race winner)
