Ferrari 'would do everything' to get Rossi into F1

Ferrari has redoubled its efforts to convince record-breaking multiple MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi to switch from two wheels to four - with Luca di Montezemolo revealing he 'would do everything' to get the FIAT Yamaha star into a third scarlet machine in F1 2011
'The Doctor' himself might repeatedly dismiss the notion, his FIAT Yamaha team boss Davide Brivio might fear it and the chances of three-car teams in F1 2011 might be as remote as ever – but undeterred, Ferrari has sent out its boldest signal yet that it wants record-breaking multiple MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi competing in one of its scarlet cars next year.

Rumours of an eventual transition from the pinnacle of international two-wheeled racing to its four-wheeled equivalent have been rife in motorsport paddocks around the world for some time, fuelled by a number of Ferrari testing outings for the Italian in recent years.

The latest of those – around Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya aboard a two-year-old F2008 back in January – saw Rossi impressively close to barely two tenths of a second shy of the lap record around the track, set by Kimi Raikkonen, and to within a tenth of the Finn's 2008 Spanish Grand Prix pole position benchmark.

Still the insistence from the 30-year-old Urbino native is that his head will not be turned and that his immediate future lies in motorcycling and in the longer-term perhaps rallying – but equally, still the famous Prancing Horse is seemingly refusing to take 'no' for an answer...

“We want a third car and I would do everything to have Valentino,” the Scuderia's president Luca di Montezemolo is quoted as having said by Reuters. “When he wins this year's MotoGP, enough is enough – he must also win in Formula 1.”

Here we go again........
Personally, I don't think this well ever happen, but you never know.
Ferrari will see this as a marketing gold mine, an opportunity to shift all Rossi's loyal fans to Ferrari, and revive the lagging interest in Ferrari and F1. I also think they are trying to deflect some interest away from the internal shitfight and lack of results going on at Ferrari now.

Rossi would know that he would go back to the bottom in F1. He won't be able to control the support given to his team mates, and he probably knows that Alonso and Massa will kick his ... (and so they should). Imagine Rossi and Alonso in the same team...... ha, they would need concrete walls between the pits, particularly if Alonsi thinks Rossi is getting any preferential treatment.

Unless ferrari are willing to offer massive money (like Schumacher massive), I can't see Rossi going.
He seems more motivated on beating the all time record for number of wins, and being the undisputed greatest ever.

Aside from that.... gotta say, his results in testing are pretty impressive.

Stupid..he's too old and wont be good enough to win in the Ferrari as it is.so they can prance off

Would be huge for f1, but not so for vr, I doubt he would enjoy developing all over again but stranger things have happened, schui is doing alright at his age.......

end of day, no matter what only race results is what count, look at MSC, a total dud since his return and all the fanfare will die down after his first lap

i say he got a good half a dozen years left in him to do well if he joins f1

F1 is Desperate it's sucked for yrs in the present format. Get your own act in gear n .... off from our Bike party.

A first i'm with the Pinkster on this one.Epic Fail

These press releases must have an ulterior motive b/c they are so random and inconsequential. Ferrari have been courting Rossi for a long time, but it has never looked to be anything more than a rumor.

There must be some reason why Ferrari and F1 gleefully proclaim that they are trying to poach Rossi from the ranks of MotoGP.

Ferrari want to run 3 F1 cars, maybe they are making the Rossi push to try and get it allowed, so he can decline and they can hire another good driver

They do have an ex-world champ in their ranks already, obviously those tests vr did recently impressed more than most thought

You may be right Tom I dont know what the rules are about running 3 cars, BUT I do know that the cheat would win races in F1 as there is nothing those guys can do in a car that he can't.

Shop off half of the F1 so overtaking gets better, get it into a wind tunnel and make it slick, what do get? A MotoGP! Joking aside, I heard that Manufactures oppose to the 3 cars because it could be used to block others; after getting a good start, some could be too protected at the front… Boring on top of Boring even for Boremula 1.

Possibly, but I don't know that running a third car requires so much pomp and circumstance. It's not like FOTA or FOM are going to be swayed by the general public. They both have their own agendas regardless of what the fans want.

I think I remembered hearing that di Montezemolo wants to run for political office. Maybe this is designed to raise his profile. Or maybe this is Eccy doing Ezy a favor by putting pressure on the MSMA and Yamaha to adopt rules Rossi likes so he isn't stolen away.

And apparently a large number of fans still eat it up. It's amazing how the idea has been so well-cultivated: Formula 1 is great simply because it is formula one. Unless rain mixes things up, next to nothing happens on track. Yet the media and fans keep on about diffusers and who has the most interesting hole in the front of their car. It's the pinnacle of racing!

It's pretty sad, isn't it? But it's like a train wreck, you've got to tune in just to watch the tragedy unfold before your very eyes.

Anyway, I'm starting to think that these Ferrari rumors are actually designed to pressure Rossi into making the switch. Anytime Rossi voices discontentment, Ferrari are always knocking on his door. First he was bored in 2005. Then he had a bad bike and tax troubles in 2007. Now he wants 1000s with more fuel and less electronics but the manufacturers are hesitant to deliver.

vr was against the 800s in 2007. From memory he was requesting the switch back to the 990's then. And despite 2 world titles with the format he is still saying the same thing. He has been consistent in his dislike for too many rider aids and the fuel regs.
