F1 Could Introduce Brake Lights

Seeing a flashing light in front of you repeatedly would make me hit the car in front just to put the lights out
<
I used to do that on Colin McRae Rally.... whenever the electrics would go haywire and the indicators would flash on and off I'd slide the rear of the car into a tree to smash the lights
<

As for the proposal, why don't they add indicators too so that you know when they're turning? And lets not forget a bumper zone between the engine and the front of the car in case anyone runs onto the track, so that they'll be safer if they get hit

You could add a horn, 3 more seats, boot and sunroof if you want too?
<

Regarding the Colin McRae rallying games - I used to love taking out the lights, just to make it look like I had a really hard rally and came through it to become victorious.

Absolutely, maybe if they had a horn it would actually make the races safer as they wouldn't have to take out aggression by hitting other drivers, but rather by beeping at them
<

I reckon the FIA should give an options list, stuff like CD Player, Aircon, iPod compatibility, leather seats.... F1 drivers spend a lot of time in those cars, they should at least be comfortable
<

I think massaging chairs would be better and how about a tv built in to the steering wheel and ps3.

Who wouldn't be a Formula 1 driver if it was like that!

You could even add a 'turn to schumacher mode and take out car ahead' if you wanted to!

Anyway back to topic, regarding what you said Valentino, I do not think they're planning on holding night races. If you read the article and take it all in it's for safety measures.

I see what you mean but these drivers dont really hit each other much because of "sudden braking" its usually a driver just being a prick and trying a stupid overtake.

You never know though.
I don't mean for a few years yet as they would need a few more lights on the cars than just the brake lights and something would have to be done about the flags.
But its a possibility for the future.

I dunno?

If they stage any in places where more people would like to watch it on the other side of the world.

I would say Australia but F1 is quite popular there isn't it so...

But Moto GP were thinking about it as last year i think Rossi, Capirossi and Roberts i think it was tested in the night on road bikes at one of the tracks - Qatar i think...

There's no point in running the risk of racing full out at night just so people around the world can watch it at 3 o'clock their time. It's perfectly acceptable in Le Mans because of the 8hr and 24hr races, but still - their cars aren't going 230mph! If fans were really dedicated then they would watch the race live, like i'm going to do at 2pm through to the early morning for the first round at Australia, or just watch the highlights later in the day.

Le mans cars used to run 250 mph and they cut up the straight with chicanes as a result.

F1 cars don't go 230 because the downforce holds them back too much.

And night racing isn't about t.v, apparently its an added spectacle. I don't think its a good idea just because its .... to watch.

But yes, real fans watch live coverage and re-runs are for ........

Le Mans aren't far off 230mph!

But i think maybe yes i did take it a bit too far with my night races idea!

They aren't that fast.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Alex @ Mar 15 2007, 06:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>They aren't that fast.

By the late 1980s, the fastest cars were again reaching impressive top speeds. In 1988, a WM P87 powered by a turbocharged PRV engine and driven by Roger Dorchy reached the speed of 405 km/h (251.7 mph) early in the race. This performance is generally considered as non-significant, though, because it was considered a media coup by a team seeking budget: the car was tuned for top speed with all air orifices taped, as a result the engine broke soon after. But the next year a Sauber C9-Mercedes reached a top speed around 400 km/h (248.5 mph) without any special tuning during the race, and FISA felt that it had grown unsafe.

Two chicanes were consequently put in place in time for the 1990 race to lower top speeds.

(from wikipedia)

The cars still do 210 though and formula 1 never get anywhere near 230 anyway!

Formula 1 get close to that down one of the straights, or at least they did i'm sure of it!

That's new to me anyway, i'll give you that one.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Mar 15 2007, 06:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>F1 cars are slower in a straight line than the 990's were.

That is very true.

I think the 990 ducati went at about 210mph once although i maybe wrong so F1 cars prob max out at 205 these days.

At the common tracks between F1 and motogp the 990's had higher top speeds but obviously come off the turns way slower.

I read that Honda went out the the desert with an F1 car with all the aerodynamics modified/removed and new gearing it went some. Don't know the actuall speed though

According to the Honda website it did about 220 although i thought it was a bit more than that.
