Ezpeleta explains MotoGP Rookie Rule change of heart

all these new rule changes and the contract ending .... is making my brain ....... hurt. I think if they want Marquez very badly to go to Motogp they should not put him on a factory bike and .... up a rule for one rider. I'm not saying this because I'm worried he might replace Pedrosa, Nakamoto loves the midget and he will .... Repsol and the "not two spanish thing" just to keep Dani in but putting and taking away rules this frequently shows how ...... up the management system is. If Repsol badly wants Marquez on a factory Honda he has to wait and the back the .... off. the only way this .... can get into a reasonable situation is this: Repsol guys wait for one ....... year so that the HRC guys put Marquez on the Gresini bike and for 2014 they can have Marquez on the repsol team. and as for 2013, Bautista is showing good on the gresini bike so he might get a chance on the repsol seat.

twitters debating it well

If Espargaro or Luthi win the championship, or worst case scenario Marquez has a long term injury, and HRC are interested in eithers service the rookie rule would disallow them from being on the factory team. You could argue it has been dropped for them too!!

And Bautista going to factory Suzuki did not infringe on the rookie rule. A factory team that had not won "x" amount of races could hire a rookie. Kawa would have had the option as well.

you're coming across as a....we need to find a term for marquez boppers .guys, any suggestions?

make no mistake, this was changed because gresini and lcr were scared that they lose sponsors because they need to obey and take marquez on if they want a good bike when he leaves

I think MM may become pretty unpopular as a rider by this decision. I have never been a fan of his. I do not doubt his natural talent and if the guy gets given preferential treatment, you can't blame him for that.

But now, because of this change in the rules, I will be wanting ANYONE and EVERYONE to kick his little Repsol ...

I disagree.

I'd like to see him do it all by himself and make a total hash of it!

Just like removing this rule and showing favoritism to a nation again is making a joke out of MotoGP!

.... you Dorna! WSBK is the future!

One villain exits and another comes in.

First the rookie rule and now the 4 bikes per manufacture rules is being scrapped before it even got in.

Rule change - Villain is in place, rule change - now twist arms to make sure God gets a good bike.

WWE MotoGP2013 here we come.

Are the supporters of CRT and new mid season BS tires starting to get it yet, DORNA is constantly match fixing. I like Marquez as a talent and think he would turn out to be a great and well respected competitor if the sport was being managed by anyone other than DORNA.

Heard the rookie rule is being changed back again......@texastornado5 sometimes I guess we need a diff passport? -- Ben Spies (@BenSpies11)

Not hating on Marquez at all. The kid is fast. I'm just stating facts that no matter where ur from in shouldn't hinder or help u. -- Ben Spies (@BenSpies11)

Oh, controversy time ......................

Removing for a moment the fact that the likely winner from the removal will be Marquez (DORNA and Repsol), and only looking at the 'published' reasons then I have to say that I agree with the basic fundamental argument that to force Marquez, his sponsors, his mechanics and other 'hangers on' onto a satellite team is unfair and untenable to that team.

Simple dollars and cents.

Fact is that we want teams in the sport and we want (some of us) prototypes in the category so to risk the sponsors of these current satellite teams (Tech3, LCR and Gresini) by forcing into them additional unassociated sponsors could well sign the 'death knell' for the same teams the following year.

Simple really and a good business decision.

However, the over-riding question is whether the same 'fresh approach' would have occurred for another rider from a different nationality who brings with him a multi-million dollar sponsorship is the question that is causing much gnashing of teeth and (IMO here), rightly so. Yes people can allude back to Spies' situation, but what sponsors did he have to bring and what was the dollar figure that he was bringing with him at the time (and compare this to the stories of dollars that Marquez brings).

It may seem unfair, it may seem biased but it is business and it is totally understandable that in these days when dollars rule the world and the sport is crying out for dollar investment that the dollar wins. Additionally, it is understandable that the likes of Cechinello have spoken out and voiced concerns regarding having someone like Marquez foisted upon them and the behest of DORNA given LCR's already long standing sponsor relationships.

The issue is complicated by the 4 factory bike rule as well given that in the current format Honda could not provide a fifth bike for a standalone Marquez team (factory bike or not).

Yes, one could say that to force Marquez to ride a CRT is reasonable if DORNA see CRT as the answer as forcing this would generate far more interest in CRT and possibly bring associated development, but we all have our own thoughts there.

Considering the 4 factory bike rule is also now dead was there any reason at all for the rookie rule to be killed off?

If Honda wanted him so bad and he has a full crew, a full book of sponsors and all the fluffer's he needs then the solution is simple. Honda provide a 5th bike and his whole team runs out of their own garage as a fully independent satellite team.

It wouldn't have required the back flip on any rules as the 4 bike rule had not yet been enforce. Dorna would have maintain the minuscule amount of integrity they have left and it would of allowed another rider such as Bradl to step up to the HRC team and another rider such as Pol to get the LCR seat. All win win win's.

But no. Dorna with their collective brain cell have further f'd the sport and its credibility. I think the reason why this scenario didn't occur is Dorna are trying to keep any 5th Honda that becomes available for God. So they are willing to drag the sport further down the gutter to milk God and his worshipers for a little longer.

I can see why with a quick look it's easy to get excited about this rule being cancelled but I don't think it has really made much difference (if any) since it was introduced. Looking at the rookies that have come through since the rule was in place, none of them were ever likely to go straight to a factory team with the possible exception on Simoncelli at honda in place of Dovi, but I'm not sure what Dovi's contract situation was at that time. I fancy things would have been the same anyway.

Dorna has promised many of the existing riders a bit of a career path. Along come the manufacturers and try to pop an "outsider" rider on their ride, be it for market or competitive reasons, and its a seat taken for the guys Dorna has raised through the classes.

So Yamaha wanted Spies straight into Mgp to appease the US fans, Dorna stops that with the Rookie rule, same occurred with Toseland.

Honda want to be very competitive so they don't want Rossi, Dorna realises the manufacturers have had enough of being told who can ride their bikes, Honda have put their foot down because in this economic climate they don't want to waste money,

It kinda all spells Rossi is gone from factory rides, Crutchlows takes his Duc. seat at a 60th the price. Marquez becomes Repsol Hondas future Spanish guy. Pedrosa's time is limited, not by any other influence than his own wish to continue, and this is close to the end, as was Stoners tenure at Honda.

WHat would interest me, assuming a Marquez/Pedrosa setup at Honda, is who would replace the latter in 2014 if they drop him?!
