Edwards to leave Tech 3

Had a brief period of disillusionment with Edwards when he and Toseland were having their little spat. Despite that I still like the guy - he seems more than anything else to outwardly enjoy the sport which in turn makes it more enjoyable to watch.

As for who'll take his place - it wouldn't surprise me if the guys coming up from Moto2 (whether or not they should be is another matter- some of them almost certainly will) will probably end up in the new teams (perhaps even alongside Edwards!).

I'd have to agree that Dovi's probably on his way there next year, though I don't think he should be - weirdly I wrote an article about it on my GP blog this morning - http://whoneedsfourwheels.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-did-dovi-do.html

The way the media has been treating/ignoring him in the past few weeks has rather annoyed me!

Not sure why you would have any disillusions with Edwards over his spat with Toseland, it was Toselands fault there was a spat to begin with. .

I just hadn't heard him say a bad word about anyone before that - I didn't lay blame for the spat with either of them.

Colin is happy go lucky guy with a vitriolic mouth. He, and most everyone else, felt that Toseland was overstepping his boundaries within the team when he demanded a crew chief swap. Colin let him know right quick what the pecking order in the team was, and Toseland didnt like it. Obviously Colin was correct, since he is still there.

I like it since this is proof that the field will grow next season....besides, no one has better body english on a bike other then Edwards.

Just wish Loris was not throwing in the towel......yet.

It does of course depend upon your perspective, and I for one don't intend to speculate about the intricacies of the problem. The fact that JT wanted a crew chief he could actually talk to is understandable, as is Colin's reaction. From what I've seen and read of it it was more a lack of communication that resulted in argument. As for why Toseland isn't there any more, it seems more likely to me that his lack of pace is the main reason for his departure - there was a pretty interesting article on it in MCN's bike racing special from 2009 which gave the stats, he was something like 0.03 seconds slower than Colin in every corner.

JT stole Colin's crew chief. The only extenuating circumstance was Poncharal's endorsement of the swap which was intended to shake things up and pit teammates against one another. Peace only returned to Tech 3 b/c Colin finished top 5 in 2009 (thanks to solid riding from Spies at Valencia), which netted Colin a championship bonus, and JT was vanquished. Otherwise, I suspect the fallout from Poncharal's lack of leadership and JT's subversive gamesmanship would have torn the team apart.

IIRC, the crew-chief situation was quite one-sided. I don't pass judgment on JT b/c he put his own career on the line. I was less impressed with Poncharal who was primarily concerned with collecting Dorna-subsidies by pandering to Toseland. Hardly becoming of a man who is supposedly fit to run IRTA.

Spot on! No doubt.

I like Sic, he's entertaining but Honda attempting to set him up and scuttle Dovi is completely dishonorable and transparent. What a sham!

Look. As consistent as Dovi is........ we all know he is NOT a faster rider then Side-Show Simoncelli. Dovi has NEVER out-performed either one of his teammates yet. He is consistently the slower rider, he's not even faster then the other 2 in practice, let alone qualifying and the race. He's only been gettting good results because of THE BIKE !!! So you people need to quit trying to bring up his statistics of podium finishes..... cuz anyone on the grid could achieve the same if they were given the bike. Disagree with me all you want.... but even the likes of Karel Abraham or Crutchlow, if given the HRC machine, will regularly podium. And that is all to it. Dovi is an average rider.

Back on topic. It's finally time they let Edwards go...... he's a waste of a grid space.

Totally agree. I'd live to see what other factory would pick up Pedro. I'd love to see him 'muscle' the Ducati.

Would look like a cockroach glued to an off-kilter vibrator.

"cuz anyone on the grid could achieve the same if they were given the bike" - essentially you're saying "if you give someone the fastest bike, they will be faster than everyone else" which is a null argument. While I'm hardly saying Dovi is the best rider out there, I am saying that you can't argue with the numbers, and he is doing better than Pedrosa. If both the bike and he (Dani) are so good, why has he repeatedly fallen off the damned thing (Simoncelli incident aside)? Dovi is using the best machine consistently, and while that may not wow the fan boys, it's the mark of an excellent racer.

Even if he were to trade places with Sic I reckon he'd end up doing better by the end of the season - important though it is, the racing is about more than what bike you're on. Is that all there is to it? I doubt it somehow...

This announcement is a surprise to me. I didn't take any hints of him switching to a CRT team even though he discussed the potential advantages and disadvantages to riding a bike fielded by one of those teams. He stated he was still interested in working with the Tech 3 guys with his new team, but why did he want out if he desires to still work with them? Was he maybe nudged out, i.e. Tech 3 wanting to go with a younger rider?

You do realize that they are on exact machines, and Sic has yet to finish ahead of Dovi this year, not once. Your argument is null and void. One fast lap a weekend does not make racer. Actually, with what is about to transpire at Honda, 1 fast lap per weekend cops you a factory ride. Sickening.

You DO realize that even though Side-Show Simoncelli and Dovi are, theoritcally, on the same bike.... one has alot more support, as far as techicians and advance data analysis that money can buy, as opposed to the other who is in a small private satellite team? One is backed by HONDA, while the other is merely in a small team ownership running Honda products. Guess who belongs to which?

You really think HRC would give Gresini every data telemetry, every know how, so Gresini can compete against the all mighty HONDA and embarrass them? Come on now Povol..... you are a guy who seems to take an interest in politcs........... you can at least see this. Think about it.

True, Aoyama demonstrated your point quite aptly.
