Bad move. He's not ready. This move would be nothing more than a capitulation to UK media and the pounds such a move would generate on their behalf.

i disagree. I think it would be a good move, i also think he is as ready as he is going to be. No point getting stale in lower classes. You learn by stepping up imo.

Well bro, I'm not so sure nationality has anything to do with Dovi on this one issue of seats left on factory HRC, if anything, it helped his clout while being Pedro's teammate. Ok, so there are only two seats, we can't do much about that. Its a simple economic reality. So which two should lose their ride? Stoner, Pedro, Dovi, or Simo? Its your team, you have to keep two of them and two of them leave to satellite teams (its not like they're being banished to hell).

There will be 2 official factory Repsol bikes in 2012 with Stoner and Pedrosa, that we know. It appears that the Gresini machine that Sic is riding will remain a full factory effort for 2012 also. Sic is negotiating his contract with Suppo, not Gresini. That tells me that one of the Gresini Honda's will be a factory effort. If it is, Dovi should have that ride.

How many Moto2 victories does he have? In the end, I don't think it matters. There are too many qualified riders available for that seat for him to get it. We can argue until the announcement is made at which point we'll realize we wasted our time. Either Bradl or Dovi will be on that bike next season.

Wager?

I know they are cutting their budget by 30% but have they offically said they are cutting back by only running 2 factory bikes ?

Im not about to wager Smith will get the ride and ive never suggested he would. I mearly stated it would be a good move on his part if offered. Victorys dont meen ...., just look at hayden in 06 lol

I can see Smith been a replacement in waiting for when crutchlows contract is up.

Dovi...

Bradley Smith is less ready than Cal and look what he has done....zippity dooda. Zip...nada. Smith should stay in moto2. Laverty is another that over values himself.

I'd get rid of Cal before I got rid of Colin Edwards. Based on results.

If you want to win in MotoGP you need a factory bike. If you want a factory bike you need to be able to get it your second year in MotoGP. If you languish a few years on a satellite bike then you end up another DePuniet, Barbara, etc etc.

If I were managing an up and coming rider then I would not be looking so much at what the opportunity was first year in MotoGP I would be looking at what was happening second year. My primary focus would be which factory riders are coming off contract at the end of next year and what chance do they have of losing that seat. Look at Pedrosa for example, he is off contract at the end of 2012. If he does not win the 2012 contract then it is highly likely that he will lose that seat. Now we all know that Marquez will take that seat so if Marquez did not do his rookie season on a satellite bike in 2012 then he is screwed because someone else will get it and if they are successful then Marquez misses out.

Smith and Bradl should be looking at the same. If there is no chance that a factory Yamaha rider or Stoner will lose their seat at the end of 2012 then they should stay put in Moto2 and wait. If they think for example that Spies may be vulnerable if he doesn't win or at least come second in 2012 then I would be jumping on a Tech 3 bike next year and hope I beat the other Tech 3 rider and finish as first satellite rider and stake my claim for the factory Yamaha seat.

Timing is so important and in my opinion Crutchlow was stupid to take the Tech 3 ride for this year as both factory yamaha riders were never going anywhere in 2012.

What factory seats will be open in 2013. Probably 2 Ducati seats and most likely a Factory Honda seat. Who knows what will be happening at Suzuki. So in reality there is a good chance that 3 new rookies in 2012 could get factory rides in 2013. Does Smith want to be one of them?

Another point. If I were managing an up and coming rider like Smith I would be trying to negotiate a testing contract with a factory MotoGP team whilst they were competing in Moto2. Seat time, even testing would give the best shot at having a successful first year in MotoGP

Im sure his seat is secure but Pedrosa to me is the luckiest factory rider in motogp. He hasnt had 1 season where he was still in contention halfway thru the year.

I never understood the hype behind Smith. He didnt win in 125s or moto2.

So glad to see Edwards out of motogp. Noones done less with more for as long as he has.

No doubt he should take if offered. I don't expect it to be available to him.

Stoner never won a 125 or 250 title. There are plenty who did who have done anything in MotoGP.

Totally agree about Pedro. Powerful friends is his claim to fame.

Smith is fo real bro. What i mean by real, a real Baustista, Barbera, Aoyama, Crutchlow, DePuniet.

Edwards has had some decent runs. U gotta beat the old guys first, remember. Well, hes beat a lot of young guys. But nothing beyond that.

Nor wayne rainey.

It actually remains to be seen whether the new lower classes will be any guide to premier class success at all, or whether we return to the days of superbike riders coming in. Even with the old 125s and 250s the only riders in the last 3 decades or so who spring to mind as having really made it the premier class after stellar 250 and/or 125 careers are rossi and lorenzo.

As we all know, by witnessing what is going down at Honda, its not always the deserving rider who gets the ride. Probably the one thing i hate about top shelf racing more than anything.

Winning talks the loudest, if Dovi was winning there wouldn't even be a discussion. But when the bosses have to chose between two riders who aren't winning, they have to think about who brings the most money/pr and who has the most potential. Neither of those things necessarily reflect current performance. It can be frustrating though

Marquez will definetly still be in MOTO2 next year,

How sure are you and where did you get that information?

I think Smith should stay, and i think he will.
