<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Dorna have now demonstrated what Kenny Roberts Snr has exhorted us to believe for years, that there is more than sufficient funding in the coffers to cough up and bankroll a team as they were forced to do with Hayate this season. It's not as if the grid is burgeoning to the extent of WSBk - they simply
can't afford not to divert funds to address this crisis, and lend/divert support to struggling non factory franchises. They should have worked tirelessly on the back of Valentino's incredible commercial appeal to strengthen the series, and attract diverse sponsorship, but the focus is myopic, and oriented to immediate profit as opposed to securing the longevity and sustainability of the series. This championship - let's remind ourselves....
the supposed premier motorcycle racing series on the planet, will not survive a rerun of the Doohan years.
Great post as usual. And to add to this, King Kenny warned Dorna that satellite sponsors need to get air time (not just the popular front runner) for their add dollars to make sense. Looks like they haven't learned their lesson. It must be frustrating for the passionate team owners who will do anything to race, and have to go to the leg word to get sponsors on board, only for Dorna to give them a big .... off in coverage. Now they will need to scramble for another few bikes otherwise the grid will look more anorexic than it already looks. They could have solved this if they marketed and gave more attention in coverage time for these sponsors whose goal it was to get airtime. The sponsors might have known going in that their teams would be back markers, but that doesn’t mean they had to show logos on the bikes a mere 3 seconds over an hours worth of coverage. It’s just ....... stupid to treat deep pockets this way. Just like Cali Kid’s less than memorable experience after forking over a month’s wages (value of the ticket) where they could have done a 10 minute meet ad greet and that would have gone a long way for people to ante up again and again. Now look what we have, the word is getting out and Dorna now needs to look for new suckers to invest.
