<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Dorna have now demonstrated what Kenny Roberts Snr has exhorted us to believe for years, that there is more than sufficient funding in the coffers to cough up and bankroll a team as they were forced to do with Hayate this season. It's not as if the grid is burgeoning to the extent of WSBk - they simply
can't afford not to divert funds to address this crisis, and lend/divert support to struggling non factory franchises. They should have worked tirelessly on the back of Valentino's incredible commercial appeal to strengthen the series, and attract diverse sponsorship, but the focus is myopic, and oriented to immediate profit as opposed to securing the longevity and sustainability of the series.
You know that I think Ezy is Beelzebub incarnate, yet I'm actually willing to give Dorna a pass for being myopic during the 800cc era. I'm inclined to believe Ezy when he said that Dorna were convinced about the tribulations ahead during the 800cc era, but that he voted for them as a show of solidarity.
I think Ezy was alarmed by enormous marketing and financial problems that would likely result from the change. Unfortunately, the IRTA and the FIM are both hugely dependent upon the MSMA and the FIM, specifically, are prone to making poor governance decisions during a public outcry for increased safety.
Now that the DORNA/FIM coffers have raided to keep the sport afloat during this latest financial crisis, I'm quite certain that the FIM realize the folly of walking in lock step with the MSMA. Even if the MSMA wanted to continue down the 800cc path, the sponsorship money needed to continue 800cc development will be lost if GP can't field enough bikes to maintain world championship status. The manufacturers are probably open to change.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>This championship - let's remind ourselves....
the supposed premier motorcycle racing series on the planet, will not survive a rerun of the Doohan years.
Now you know why I am so supremely skeptical of the events following Stoner's runaway championship victory. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Honda's surprise win at Laguna (first time with B-stone and no prior data) has me on edge once again. I'm starting to wonder if the MSMA have divided tire compound selection amongst themselves. In other words, each manufacturer gets to pick their preferred compound at several races.
Seems innocuous enough.
