View slideshow » To my knowledge (and I have known Ducati for more years than I care to count), this is the first time that Ducati marks real, solid profits. At the end of the first six months of the year, Ducati posted a substantial €66 million EBIDTA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization). This is by a few light years the best financial result in the Italian "motorcycle" industry, and it was achieved thanks to the extremely wise and capable policy inaugurated by Del Torchio based on huge investments in research and development, quality control and reliability. Ducati has improved so much in these terms to be rated the best motorcycle make in Europe, with warranty costs that have declined by 70 percent.

"Now, Ducati primarily delivers what we intended was its mission in the motorcycling world: emotional, gratifying quality," says Del Torchio, with a note of pride in his voice." The productivity went up at the same rate with quality, thanks to new, high-precision, digitally controlled tooling. The revamped enthusiasm and discipline of our manpower greatly contributed to ensure repeatability to the new quality standards that has turned every Ducati into 'authentic Italian performance.' We have more challenges in front of us. This season will not bring to Ducati any crown in the sport, but I look forward to Valentino Rossi teaming up with Nicky Hayden.

"Nicky is a wonderful person and a great rider. This year, he greatly contributed to improving our Desmosedici racer. Next year, he and Valentino will hone the bike to its ultimate winning potential. We knew that we were going to face a tough year in World Superbike . The new rules don't help; someone was allowed to bend them, and our 1198 has reached its ultimate potential. In two years, we shall be ready with our new 1200cc Twin."

DUCATI CEO Gabriele Del Torchio has confirmed Valentino Rossi will race alongside Nicky Hayden in the Malboro Ducati MotoGP squad from 2011.

Following one of the worst-kept secrets in MotoGP, Del Torchio confirmed Rossi's intentions to switch to Ducati in an interview with Cycle World magazine.

"Nicky is a wonderful person and a great rider. This year, he greatly contributed to improving our Desmosedici racer. Next year, he and Valentino will hone the bike to its ultimate winning potential," said the Ducati boss.

Del Torchio also hinted the company will be seeking to replace Ducati's existing 1198 superbike, as he believed the iconic V-twin had reach the end of its development life: "We knew that we were going to face a tough year in World Superbike. The new rules don't help; someone was allowed to bend them, and our 1198 has reached its ultimate potential. In two years, we shall be ready with our new 1200cc Twin."

i'm not convinced that this is the wisest choice for Vale
<
makes me think Ducati just want an Italian riding an Italian bike like with Melandri the other year... but obviously Rossi is better than Melandri

I don't think Rossi would make this jump had the bike not improved, when Melandri was riding it it was still a pile of .... and got no better....on another note the engine rule seems to have taken some teeth out of the Duc and Val may use his super powers and tell the FIA the engine rule has to go and with the displacement increase coming it's not a hard sale.

oopps...double....and btw welcome back Kez

The double reply is easy to do - join the club -

But understandable with this Ducati confirmation

Gooooo Rossi go and whip Whoregay's ... in 2011 - start with Misano 2010, but you certainly won't be getting the same Yam parts and treatment now

Spies, who will be promoted from the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad,

said: "It would be really hard to see if Valentino left Yamaha that Jerry didn't go with him. If Valentino is going to race for three more years then Jerry will work those and retire. He won't want to take on me with eight years or something left in racing.

"It's always a possibility and it would be awesome to be able to work with him but I can't see it happening."

Burgess will move to Ducati with Rossi in 2011.

Maybe JB Retires if not with vale at Duc cant see him at Honda nope

maybe Alex Briggs will announce something lol he gets asked hourly on twitter

Ducati: Rossi deal is not doneDucati have revealed they are still to conclude a deal to sign Valentino Rossi despite recent reports which indicated the nine-time world champion would join the Italian manufacturer from next season.

Ducati's chief executive and president Gabriele Del Torchio was this week quoted as saying Rossi, who recently returned to action after suffering a broken leg in a crash at the Italian Grand Prix, would be paired with Nicky Hayden at the company's factory MotoGP team in 2011.

The manufacturer has now backtracked on Del Torchio's claims in an interview with Cycle World, with a statement saying: "Regarding the recent allegations attributed to Gabriele Del Torchio, Ducati CEO and President, Ducati states that no agreement has been reached with the riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden for the future Moto GP season, although our interest in these riders remains."

The statement continued: "We would like to say that the recent news which has appeared on the US website Cycle World and other websites has been misreported and must be attributed to the many rumours circulating lately.

"Whether and when an agreement is reached, official press releases will be issued."

Despite Ducati's cautious words, Rossi is nevertheless expected to complete his long-anticipated switch to the squad, ending his seven-year association with the factory Yamaha squad.

Yamaha racing boss Lin Jarvis recently stated he wanted his rider line-up for 2011 finalised by the next round at Brno in the Czech Republic on the weekend of August 13-15, with Ben Spies tipped to be named as Jorge Lorenzo's new team-mate.

Rossi's mooted Ducati switch is also expected to be finalised during the weekend of the Czech Grand Prix.

Besides the poor blokes kidney stones, I notice he has been reminiscing about their arrival at Yamaha. Changing teams & fresh starts on his mind?

Ducati: Rossi deal is not doneDucati have revealed they are still to conclude a deal to sign Valentino Rossi ......

Ah thought as much, perhaps it was another bit of wishful reporting.

Besides the latest I've seen from JB( JB's own words ) suggests he isn't going to Ducati and isn't deciding his own fate till later in the season....... which kinda suggests retirement. Whichmakes one wonder, is this perhaps the real reason Rossi may go to Duc.?

Its all such a load of malarky! why don't they just make their minds up and anounce it like Stoner did

I think the problem is with the media.. who is keen in giving greater attention to certain riders (sadly ignoring many) such that even if they cough it comes out as a news...

here the problem is not Rossi or JB rather the competition among themselves as to who comes out first announcing Rossi's next year deal.

One of the way of selling magazines..

;-)

I know .... its all a bit wacko for me

<
I think its getting to the stage where I'l believe it when I see him on the grid in 2011
<

I don't think Rossi would make this jump had the bike not improved,

I am not sure he can really know this till he gets on the bike, unless someone in whom he has great faith has tried it out for him. Marco clearly had not ridden the thing before the first test, although there were rumours of him secretly testing the kawasaki before signing there.

I guess as with the move to yamaha valentino does have guarantees of adequate funding for bike development , and I am sure he and presiozi can come up with something good for 2012 at the very least, with or without jerry burgess.

I wonder if there will be a wall up in the red garage? Doubtful. Ducati is known for sharing everything amongst all the Ducati teams/riders. And no offense to Hayden, but he isn't the threat that Lorenzo was while on the same team.

Agreed, I don't believe Rossi is threatened by Hayden, but last time they were teammates Hayden was a wet behind the ear anklebiter. If he rejoins Hayden who is now a World Champion himself, I wonder just how much of Hayden's input he would use? I suspect that Rossi may still keep certian things to himself and not share immediately but I could be wrong, I don't know him personally....

Two former competitors together in the same garage. Good potential for all kinds of gossip next season.

No doubt the Haystack haters will be coming out of the woodwork to blame Nicky if Rossi's season is a

bust.
