Why would it be a waste of money?
It seems like a strange play.
They talked to lots of people Stoner was their second or third choice. He's on track to be the next world champion.......even if disaster strikes everyone will still know Stoner has what it takes.
Ducati got what they needed. Why go back out and get another expensive championship contender? I know they are obsessed with the idea of having an Italian world champion on a Ducati, but I can see this turning into another Hayden/Pedrosa sitou.
Suddenly the reigning world champion finds himself riding a bike built for someone who has 0 world titles. The new guy has ties to important players in the organization, he is the right nationality, and he won a 250 title. Casey could end up like Hayden--played like a fiddle. Stuck for two years on a lame duck team with little or no clout. Trying to figure out how in hell you can bail out to a team that wants you.
Hopefully, that won't happen for Stoner. He's too good to get snaked like that.
