Dovi might be leaving Ducati

Or at least, this is what is rumored to be becoming more possible every day.

It seems like the two parts are struggling pretty hard to find an agreement and this seems to be bringing stress in the relationship between Dovizioso and the Ducati Team.

Dall'Igna himself just stated that he is not too confident that Dovi will be a Ducati rider in 2019.

This makes no logic sense at all for Ducati nor for Andrea, but is coming from pretty reliable sources so it's not too difficult for me to believe.

Less reliable sources indicated HRC as the most presumable destination for Dovi in 2019 in case this is true.

Works for me.

Oh I forgot to mention.

I know for sure that Ducati's interest (as they will replace at least 1 of their 2 current riders) is addressed to Iannone and Cal.

You want my 2 cents? Ducati shall do all they can to keep Dovi and put a young gun, very not-primadonna next to him. Miller would be a good option.

But last time I checked, I didn't work for Ducati :D

Dovi back on a Repsol Honda would be intriguing. The combo of him and Marquez would make for a stellar 2019 season and give Marquez his first real challenge as a teammate if the rumors turn out to be true.

While it is pretty clear that Dovi is my favorite rider, I'm more of an Honda fan than a Ducati fan, so I'd obviously be cool with him going to HRC.

BUT. How could Ducati let him go? It's their only reliable rider and is the only rider that can get close to Marquez right now.

Their stellar 2017 would have been a terrible year without him.

I just don't understand it.

They have done it before.

I can’t really see him challenging MM if both are at Honda, but taking the only guy who can ride the Ducati consistently away from Ducati would be a Honda thing to do.

How reliable is their long term future in MotoGP with all the trouble VW are in?. I could see the Ducati MotoGP programme being assessed as something of a luxury, particularly given the money thrown away on Lorenzo.

.... - never would have thought of that. And they could afford to do it. Dovi being the good team player he is, would put the fight to MM - but would never do anything out-of-line to mess with him. Devious.

Also Dovi would be a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over Pedrosa who should have been kicked out of the team a long time ago.

Goes without saying...

I wonder what the pay differential between the two would be? While Dovi would bring to the table more points for the constructors championship, Dani I suspect brings more sponsorship money. The guy has a massive fan base. Personally - I will miss him come the day he leaves the sport. He's no social media darling, but he's really done a lot with what he's got. But yes - it's long overdue. That HRC seat is too important.

Much as I like Dall'Igna, I'm not a Ducati fan and would love to see Dovi back on a Honda.

The only other team that can offer Dovi a better deal is HRC (KTM maybe, but they seem to already have their riders locked in for 2019) and he would be a good fit there. The reality of the situation is: Ducati needs Dovi more then Dovi needs Ducati...

Right now Honda has the bike to be on but beating Marquez on the same bike seems like a massive ask.

That's exaclty why all this doesn't make any sense to me...but it's what's happening.

We'll see.

Dovi to HRC
Rossi back to Ducati
Iannone back to Ducati
Lorenzo to Suzuki
Pedrosa to Yamaha

Agree other than Rossi. There's a lot of stuff I can say about him, but being stupid is not one of them.
Were that for some reason be his only option, he would retire.

Well Dovi also has to be careful, because Honda does not need Dovi as much as Dovi would need Honda (should he not get a deal done with Ducati).

with Iannone and Rins looking so good on the Suzuki, they might hold onto both riders, so where would Lorenzo go?
