Doohan: "Stoner has mental edge on Rossi"

Besides the headline, where did Doohan even say that Stoner had a mental edge on Rossi?

Journo's write headlines, so in and of itself it isn't attributable to anyone reputable.

...... bike. Yep Talpa is right, although when Casey was riding the ...... bike and the Rossi ilk were blaming it on mental attitude we had to defend and you had to attack, it's the way of the world.

Casey has most of his mental battles with Casey. As much as we like like Krusty the Clown types of riders he is a little more introverted.

What this is mostly about and I mean 95% about is the upcoming round of the championship in Australia.

We can argue/discuss the 5% that may have some content or validity but their headline capability is what counts.

Disagree about being "tired" or reaching end of athletic cycle. Its simply the effect of being on a ...... bike.

Jums, I agree but disagree.

I think Doohan is right in that VR is indeed tired but I also agree with you that it is the effect of the bike.

For me, VR looks far more tired and less 'excited' or 'jovial' than I can recall at any time in his illustrious career and to me there is no doubt that his battle with the bike (and Ducati) are wearing on him and causing him to be tired. The flow on with this is he is likely (one could say obviously) not enjoying the situation he finds himself in and as a result is growing more tired.

But, I do not think it means the end of VR as a force, or that he will retire because of this situation as whether one likes or loathes him, one thing VR definitely is not is a quitter and he will want to go out on his terms, at his time and when in a far better position than 2011 has allowed.

Personally I do feel that VR is tired, but all riders get 'tired' at times and it is how they recover that we remember.

Mick has balls of iron and he is one of the great legends.. but i never liked his riding style, the way he hung off the bike always looked funny to me

Interesting, if not mindbogglingly insightful read. As far as Stoner is concerned, Doohan is saying sensible things. I don't know if he's right about Rossi. A good friend of mine is also of the opinion that Rossi is starting to reach the end of his athletic life-cycle and points to countless examples of the greats of other sports (for instance Schumacher).

Although I too believe that Rossi is missing the holy fire at the moment, I also think that as long as he doesn't loose his head completely, he'll be competitive again next year. The new Bridgestones will suit the Ducati much better, this I am sure of.

I just hope that Rossi is not at the end of his strengths, both mentally and physically. It would be so sand if he retired from motorcycle racing after several years failing to tame the Ducati.

Nowadays, Stoner and other younger riders hang off their bikes in a totally different way. Maybe you noticed, but the younger a rider is, the more aggressively he hangs off his bike. Maybe there is a new trend.....Nowadays, Mick Doohan's posture would be considered totally wrong. At this lean angle, Casey or Lorenzo's head would be somewhere near the ground.

Give the gimp a break! Seriously, I think the f-up right leg has something to do with it. I think I remember Doohan saying he likes to weigh the outside peg, so on left turns like the pic above, he looks terrible.

On right turns, he looks better:

Its not that he is tired Gaz....he is just having a bout of lactose intolerance.

In my medical opinion he has a clear case of classic ducati intolerance, not an uncommon condition over the last 5 years; stoner's 2009 syndrome may well have been an at least partly related condition as you imply though, but differed in being subacute.

This would be the same "...... bike" that has the most wins of any singular bike since the start of 2007 would it ?
<

The same "...... bike" thats wins 3 out of 4 races ........ then suddenly is the worst bike in the world at the first tests a few months later !!???

There's something fishy about your "Ducshati" theory

LMFAO!!! like someone here already mentioned: never go full ....... otherwise, you'll be doomed like BM making claims like that! LMFAO!!!

The Australian, Malaysian and Valeciana GP's and Rossi will have to get in comparison to Stoner’s Ducati record’s in 2010 and they are like this:

Australian Gp-1st Malaysian Gp DNF and Valeciana Gp- 2nd…can our hero VR achieve this on the Ducati??? I doubt it and even with Casey’s 1 x DNF, I don’t think that VR will achieve the total points for the next 3 GP’s or for the season on the Ducati in comparison to Casey's Ducati year in 2010! Well he can’t irrespective of what he does for the rest of the 2011 season...bahh bahhh!!!

The writer wished Doohan had said the bit about the mental adge. Doohan is right about the most of what he said, but about Rossi and his motivation i dont believe it yet. imo Rossi simply haven't found the right way to ride this bike.
