er, nice to see donny spending money in all the wrong bloody places!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Plans published for major redevelopment of the pits and paddock complex at Donington Park

The scheme, costing some £5million, will provide state of the art pits and paddock facilities for the competitors and officials working at the Leicestershire Grand Prix circuit.

Contractors moved in on October 3 to begin the demolition of the existing pit-garages, media room and race control tower. Building work then gets under way, with 38 pit-garages, a dozen more than at present, being provided, while a new spacious office suite on the first storey will provide an improved working environment for race control, time-keeping and administrative personnel and the media at events.

The circuit commentators will be housed on the second storey, their vantage point giving them good views of much of the parkland circuit.

Allied to these works, the multi-purpose Paddock Suite is being virtually doubled in size to accommodate the Media Office at the British round of the MotoGP, with its demands for special areas for Media Conferences, Photographers and working offices.

The enlarged building, situated at the heart of the paddock and adjacent to the race circuit, will double as a unique venue for conferences, small exhibitions and both functions and corporate hospitality. En suite toilets and a fully fitted kitchen complement the facilities within this building.

"These updated, more spacious facilities are vital to the future growth and importance of Donington Park as an International motor sport centre - they meet fully the criteria expected for rounds of the World MotoGP Championship and other major events," explained the circuit's managing director Brian Pallett.

"The existing buildings had been out-grown, and when you have the world's top riders coming here, they expect the best - this is what is being achieved by this development, and it illustrates the major commitment that Clear Channel Entertainments, the lessees of the circuit, have to the sport."

Donington Park, which has hosted the British Motorcycle Grand Prix annually since 1987, has the contract to host the country's premier race of the year upto and including 2009.

I know that upgrading media/team facilities is important, but its time to bring the facilities into the 21st centuary. Its gonna be interesting for me, to compare first hand Donny, Assen & Sepang this year..........I think I know who will come bottom!

yet, I hand my hard earned cash each year coz I love the sport

Couldn't agree more with you Ben, on the camping and facilities they lay on to accomdate the paying public ..

At least they are doing some good to the circuit,,,unlike Silverstone who have been ponsing around for the last 10 years.

I like the exisiting Logo using the layout of the track in a clever form of a bike.

I sympathize with you Ben but the problem is Donington aren't out to make you happy. They're out to make the sanctioning bodies of MotoGP and other world championship events happy. Most track owners feel that the fans are going to keep coming as long as the racing is there. In order to keep the racing there, they need to improve facilities for the racing before facilities for fans. There are two ways in and out at Laguna Seca and they are currently spending millions (I've heard something close to 30) but I can guarantee none of it will be used to make the fans' lives any easier. It's all going to new a new media center, new paddock features and track safety. Not arguing with track safety though.

I've never been to Donnington and I also sympathise Ben but I reckon Ooost is right. It's the FIM and every other governing body that circuit owners have to keep happy. If MotoGP/WSB/BSB/BTC or whatever is happening the fans will come. It's the race teams, the media and the greater TV ( advert-watching ) audience that the circuit have to please. For sure they need to keep the gate reciepts coming in but that can't happen if Dorna or anyone else decides to take their circus elswhere. I'd love to know how much Dorna pay any given circuit to host a round of MotoGP, that would be interesting. Could the Donnington bosses have their eyes in hosting a round of F1? When does the Silverstone deal run out? Maybe if the circuit continues to prosper they will really get the spectator facilities happening as well. I've been to Catalunya and Assen, Grandstands everywhere, perhaps that could happen in the future. From what I remember reading about Donnington the pit garages and media facilities were long overdue a facelift.

Well last year the Riders complained that all the English speaking tracks (Laguna, PI and Donny) had bad facilities. That might have somthing to do with it. M ind you Dorna will always want a british GP and if it's not at Donny where will they host it? Silverstone? Don't think so.

Couldn't a lot of your problems with the facilites be fixed by event organizers? Granted, the track owners need to improve camping facilities & build more toilets (If only Sheene were still alive, he could come and burn em down for u so they had to build new ones, he was good at that

) But event organisers, who I'd bet are making a bucketload from selling high priced tickets to hordes of British bike fans, could pay for better entertainment, security and parking officials.

Heard they were upgrading PI a bit too. I think theyre doing the pits a bit but other than that its pretty strange stuff like a golf course, 5 star hotel and mini PI circuit for karting

I reckon that'll do well. Corporate entertainment is big business.
