yeah, i would be sad to see the old fella go but he aint ever going to get a wc in motogp. if he wants another wc he must go back to wsb, thats his best chance i think
he should go to the wsbk. he had his chances in motogp, he even had his BIG chance of winning a race in assen. Im sure he would like to stay in motogp to finally get a win, but the chance he wins with tech 3 (with all respect possible) is small. he might be a reall contester in the wsbk.
and if he goes, there will be a spot free again! who will take it??? spies perhaps??
Yamaha has a hot looking potential world beater in the new R1, however they didn't do that much to keep two good riders on that team. Loyalty (reciprocated) and love seemed to be in short supply in the Yamaha WSBK camp.
It'll be interesting to see how these guys (Edwards/Toseland) go if we do get a control tyre
There's no telling what will happen w/ this control tire. If there is a control tire it seems like Tech 3 will probably be slow to adapt. BUT, if there is a control tire, it seems like cornerspeeds will come down and point-and-shoot may return.
Gibby's coming back (allegedly) and other teams have been in talks with Checa? and Biaggi?
I think a lot of people have been banking on a control tire for a while.

I was thinking more about taking a win. Colin just does not seem to be able to take a win.
I really like colin's style and also would be sorry to see him go, but this could be easily alleviated by following him in wsbk again. Going by recent events it appears unlikely that his undoubted talents as a tyre developer (of michelins in particular) will be greatly required by yamaha in 2009, so if tech 3 are still going which may be in question I would rather see a young possible potential world champion like spies there.

not wanting to go off topic but i doubt tech3 could afford spies wage demand. in fact tech 3 maybe in danger of not competing next year if the single make the comes into force and it not michilin.

That's a very good point Rog. You'd hope that Yamaha would cough up to see Toseland through the second year of his deal. There has been a much greater degree of factory involvement/commitment towards Tech 3 this season, and Yamaha do have a very long history with the squad - so if Michelin are left out in the cold Yamaha would hopefully find the coffers to plug the gap.

I was referring to earlier speculation that spies had been signed by yamaha for wsbk in 2009 to be followed by tech 3 in 2010. I agree with both you and arrabbiata that tech 3 's future is in question which is one of my concerns about the consequences of the tyre decision. Sure yamaha may take them over de facto but this just lessens the diversity on the grid further; the logical end result is just honda, yamaha and ducati factory teams but with more than 2 bikes each as far as I can see.

They got that already with James Toseland...you the one who has actually WON a world title and not just some the local Suzuki Cup!
Besides Ben 'Oedopis' Spies is too expensive for his level of experience....let him go to WSBK and see what he can do...
He is likable and kind of like Hayden ,fun to listen to compared to others but he's not my favorite racer in the field. He could be useful as a developer for Yamaha in motoGP.I actually voted i don't care because i'm not a fan of Yamaha and they are doing well enough compared to Ducati in my liking.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (an4rew @ Sep 28 2008, 02:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I would say go back to Superbikes where he won, but his championship position and results has been better than Toseland this year anyway.
I think Yamaha are wondering where the cash is coming from for a high paid pair of Superbike champs if Michelin pulls out.
You think about it, Colin and James are probably paid better than both riders at Suzuki and Kawasaki (well maybe not Hopper). And those are factory efforts.
It will be hard to see were the money comes from already, as the team has little sponsor on the fairings.
It seems to me that his best work is at press conferences.
I like him and everybody seems to like him but enough is enough.
I don't want to hear anything else out of his mouth until he actually does something.
I don't know how factual this is but I seem to think he was doing a lot better up until he signed a new contract this year
