Casey to beat Doohan/Rossi's record?

It looks like it should be no problem for Stoner to take at least 13 wins.

im not sure but i think doohan did 12 wins in 15 races

Not this year I don't feel, I think next year will be his dominant year.

I know the last few races he has been dominating, but caution tells me to stay with modest aspirations at present.

He's on an "above the line" performance curve ATM and no sign of it hitting a crest yet, so maybe next year.

Still 5 races to go and folk are giving them to him based on his last few races performance ... too small a sample set really, so although it looks good I still think caution is the way to look at it.

Even Stoner and the Ducati team are playing it like that as they are taking it one race at a time.

that's an interesting analysis. i actually feel like it's this year or never. i doubt he (and most others) will be able to dominate next year (or the next few years) as the other machinery and tires get up to snuff.

I kinda think you are putting too much of it down to equipment ... none to the rider.

I'll be honest I think the Ducati/Bridgstone/team combo is his "perfect match" .... and that to me is why he is not just winning by a good margin, but he is running away with it. But I would use the bikes performance as a factor to the riders performance ....

I find it hard to see how one can see it as "its the bike and not the rider" and the rider is just an additive to that!! By this reasoning, you are suggesting the scenario whereby ... if I entered a MotoGP race on Casey's bike .... I could win a race!!!!

No my peak was years ago .... and it was possibly viewed as a pixel out of place on a flat line graph .... compared to MotoGP riders

Oh man... That pretty much describes my rather dismal racing career as well!!

I ride at speeds that keep my limbs intact these days...

I agree. It is this year or never, and you would think michelin will get it right at least once in the remainder of the year to give rossi a chance of winning.

From my admittedly biased perceptive I think he will have a fair chance of winning the championship next year, but even if ducati stay ahead of the other teams he won't beat melandri in a sufficient number of races.

I have this feeling the Ducati will not suit Melandri as well as it does Stoner ... Hence why I am thinking Stoner will be stronger next year ....

To beat Doohans record Stoner will have to win all the remaining races this season, i don't see it happening. I think he might be able to equal Rossi's 11 though.

I'm thinking 11. Motegi should be a lock. Sepang is a track Casey has won at on 125's and 250's, PI and Estoril are the only ones that may cause trouble as they can be quite windy. Still its hard to see anyone else winning even if the tyres were equal. The package is still improving race by race, they have a new fairing if the wind is too great. Ducati seem to have everything covered this year.

08 Stoner/Melandri battle, can't wait.

Stoner will beat the record BUT when Rossi & Doohan set the records there was only 13 - 15 races not 18.
However still one hell of an acheivement for stoner

.

I bet Dani crys himself to sleep.

Doohan won 12 from 15 = 80%
Rossi won 11 from 16 = 69%

To beat Rossi's percentage Stoner needs 13 wins (all of the remainder), he cannot match Doohna this season.

whats the record for consecutive race wins???

Mick Doohan scored 10 in a row in 1997!

The sucky thing about the last 2 races is that Tady only just pipped Mick for the win at Sentul & then when miles in front at Phillip Island (not Eastern Creek) Mick lost the front going into Turn 1 at a great rate of knots!
