Buellers defend the 1125R in DSB to death...

I've been following the debate regarding the Buell 1125R in Daytona Sportbike. It's obvious to me (and many others) that the bike holds a serious power-to-weight ratio advantage over the competition. The Buell fans just can't see it though.

Now they are discussing why people don't whine when Suzuki are winning. Well, obviously Cardenas isn't powering away from the competition on the straights, but instead he's winning through rider talent. They can't seem to understand the difference.

Now John Ulrich, editor of RRW, has said that the 600s produced between 119-124hp on the dyno at Barber. The 1125R on the other hand is close to 140hp with just a race exhaust. Seems like an obvious advantage to Buell, but it's still clear to them that the 600s have a power-to-weight ratio advantage...

Blind followers. You've got to love them.

Haha, yeah that's me. I think I've said my thing. If they don't get it now they probably never will.

All the chest-pounding and crap when a Buell wins is pretty hollow to me. Kind of like when Harley get an advantage in drag racing just so they can beat the "metrics". It makes the Harley guys proud, and the rest of the world just shakes its head. This is pretty much the same.

Thanks for the laugh. It was funny how you covered every base. I could almost see the frustrating look on the responders, like, .... this guy, he probably doesn't even own a Buell. Poor blind .......s. Using Ulrich as a reference was gold. Even though I can't stand Cardenas. .... that guy.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if I get any more posts from the fanboys. It's been awfully quiet for a while.

It's just humorous to me. I want to know if any of them were fans of Buell Racing back when they didn't have the NASBIKE advantage. You know, back when Buells finished outside the top 20 on a regular basis.

BUT HEY, .... YOU!! THIS IS AN AMERICAN SERIES AND THE BUELL IS AN AMERICAN BIKE SO IT SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HAVE A 300HP ADVANTAGE BECAUSE THIS HERE IS 'MERICA!! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, YOU CAN GET OUT!!! I'm sure something along those lines has been spouted off on that forum a time or two. I've certainly hear it in Elkhart. The only downfall of that beautiful racetrack, it's in Buell's backyard.

It's laughable that they think horsepower should be some sort of equalizer. As long as the Buell doesn't have the fastest lap times it is obviously okay if it has a better power-to-weight ratio. Even if it means the other riders work their ..... off in the twisty bits just to have the Buell blow by them on the next straight. That doesn't work for me.

Fred, you should read this. Povol did a great bit of sleuthing on the DMG dyno tests.

Bike weight, not horsepower, was causing problems with the DSB rules package. It appears as though almost all of the bikes on the grid are about 20lbs overweight because the eligible equipment list. Since horsepower is the ability to do work, 150hp has less trouble pulling an additional 20lbs than 120hp; especially if the 150hp bike also has a huge torque advantage.

In response to the disparity, DMG raised Buell's min weight to 380lbs and reduced the 4 cylinder weight to 360 lbs. At the time it appeared as though the rules changes would do nothing, but Buell's sudden absence from the front makes it appear as though DMG may have added weight to the bike even though Buell was already over the limit.

Who knows? With how often the rules change in DSB, this season may turn out to be a "thanks for your support" season.

Yamaha got the Daytona 200 win. Bruce Rossmeyer got some wins after that. Now media kingpin Ulrich is getting some kickbacks. Yamaha, Bruce, and John have been relatively supportive of DMG attempts to make changes. If a Honda wins we'll know something has gone wrong.

Does this sound like a rider who knows his bike has a power advantage? Sure does to me

But Eslick hopes that support from the home field crowd and the high-speed nature of the track will put him back into the championship mix.

The track’s going to be good for us and the bike, rain or shine, so we’re really looking forward to it.”
