I remember last year creating a post about why no one had the balls to stand up to Rossi in the last laps of a race. It seemed some were prepared to fight with him but when it came to the final lap their sphincter left them and they left obvious holes for Rossi to pass through.

OK it didn’t go down to the wire this time but it was great to see on Sunday that someone has the balls to man up to Rossi. I was worried that Elias' brilliance in Portugal last year was a one off but it seems at last we have someone who isn't afraid to go hammer and tongs against him.

Now I'm not saying that Elias is a better rider than Rossi, he clearly isn't, and he probably won’t get that many chances to duke it out with him. What I'm saying is that his respect for him doesn't extend so far that he dare not challenge him. Racing is racing and sometimes you need the young pretenders to take on the old masters without the reverence that they might get from other ‘journeymen’.

For nothing else I salute you Tony Elias for having the courage to take the fight to, and trade places with, Rossi. You add a refreshing uncertainly to the mix as someone who will fight to the line and not be intimidated. Let’s hope your example inspires others to think that it isn’t all over once he goes past you and that the legend is fallible.

The more that think it, the more exciting racing we will have.

i always put that down to rossio could ride on worn out tyre better than the others which was why they faded out towards the end, mabe the riders are better now or the tyres are. mccoy proved his tyres lasted better because of his slide style, mabe elias is benifecting from this. because of the highter 800 corner speed it must be hard on the tyres esp with a tidy wheel straight styles the other seem to have adopted.

The new 800's and particularly the 250 riding style is kinder on rear tires than the 990's point and shoot style is. However, sliding generates less heat inside the tire than keeping it all inline (just as Mccoy demonstrated), so perhaps hes finding an advantage there

yeah i heard that straight style can cause the rubber to tear away from the carcus but the slide style doesnt. wonder if this happened to rossis tyre

He deserved his 2nd place.

I'm betting on Toni to perform marvelously again in China. I really think he's going to come into this season as a strong contender for the title. I hope Stoner doesn't run away with the championship, but it's pretty probable that he's going to be leading the championship still after China... Beware Rossi! Dani Pedrosa is going to be back for vengance in China, so those who have him on their fantasy team should probably stick with him

Best moment of the race that. Just a hard fair pass. Elias couldn't have cared less who he was passing. I really like his style.

If Toni can take a win before any other honda rider he will do his career a lot of good. Remember the last honda win was toni in portugal. The race is on

Love his style, got a 'naughty' second place, but he would have got it anyway.

I hate being the pessimist, but aren't we going to Toni's best tracks for a few races? China, Jerez, Turkey are all his good tracks.
