Best sounding GP bikes

Serious, the ducati sounds the best

Haha, yeah, now you're being funny. But I think you're offending the Rossi-worshipers; however, the Rossi-fans will laugh along. After-all, they're getting a bit of the last laugh at the moment since the sound coming from Rossi's bike now can only be heard by those at the front. Anyway, I see Elias likes that harmonic road-rash sound too cuz he's doing his part for others to experience that melody.

Agree totally, the Ducatis rock, both in MotoGP and WSBK. Music to my donkey ears.

Fucken Pete, now I can't get that high pitch buzzing sound out of my donkey ears, you know, the one from Top Gun the movie.

I haven't heard the bikes for some years. Not since the very first year of the 4-strokers. Then the suzuki was the most evel sounding machine.
Ducati had both big the bang and the screamer out for show.

Btw. I hear talk about some of the engines being big bangs, but for sure, they can't be true big bang engines as they sound like screamer and nothing like a twin as the Ducati surly did. (My spanish isn't very sharp to say the least, so I thought they a GP and a SBk bike out there) So what's the deal there?

They are commonly called "big bang" engines but they actually are not that at all, new firing orders have been developed for the four strokes which give the distinctive sound we hear. I am not sure on the firing intervals or anything, but they are apparently known as "long bang" and they do a good job.

am i right in thinking big bang is 180 crank and screemer is 120 crank. or am i barking up the wrong tree.

Well i haven't got the relevant books with me at uni but that sounds about right for how it used to be, things are different now!

Elias must have farted on that particular moment.

I knew Jumkie had colored Rossi glasses… now, now, it’s all good once you get it out mate…

Is Methane Injection legal in GP?

thats right mate, it's all about ballance. they can all tune in more power and speed but doing that and be able to transfer that power to the track in a manner that results in a good handleing bike is a science. rossis bike handles great no question but by giving it more power could ruin it. ducati just seem to have got the right resipe from the start so props to them

Maybe Rossi could get the same top speed by using an Elias methane injection if they put a special exhaustive pipe in his BEEEEEP

I think with Elias in the field Rossi is seriously considering this option.

when firing is equally spread out (180 degrees in in the case of a 4 cylinder) its called a screamer. when the firing is spread out over a narrower part of the crank rotation and pause before the next firings, its called big bang.

Initially the big bangs would fire 2 cyinders at a time every 360 degrees, making them sound like 2 cylinder bikes. Honda had to improvise with the 5 cylinder due to the odd number of cylinders. Since they have experimented with various firing orders and crank configuarions to optimize engine rotational balance and minimize the wheelspin (that screamers were notorious for)

But screamers had more top end power, but for what use if there was not enough traction at the wheel to apply it?

all this was before electronic traction control (big bangs were designed for the purpose -- control wheel spin (just like antilock brakes, the engine pulses may spin the wheel, but tires would have time to grip in between pulses) ) now with electronic traction control, I think Ducati has switched back to the screamers.

I was at the Phillip Island GP 2006, my first GP and as i read above i was told it would be loud, my friend went to get ear plugs and asked if i wanted some and i said id be fine with out until about lap 2 off FP3. If you closed your eyes you could guess the Ducati coming down the stright 100% of the time. I tried with the rest of the bikes i got a big fat 0%. So by far it has got to be a Ducati 990
