Ben Spies........ America's great hope?

USA!! USA!! USA!!
What do you all think about Spies so far in his MotoGP career? Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed. He's very inconsistent and always out-class by his teammate. Then again it is HeyWhore Lorentho who is a considered a top tier rider and quick as hell........ but does that really show that Spies is not up there with the 'aliens'? I feel like he has enough time to get on with the bike, and if he really is a rider who's a cut about the rest, he would at least get more podiums then he has shown so far or be up there challenging for them week in week out. It seems to me like he's playing it 'too pretty', just happy to be in the big show and not really being the rider who he is and giving it 110%. I feel like he's a bit intimidated by the competition, mainly his teammate.

So you all think he's America's best hope for the next MotoGP champion, or have what it takes?

to be honest, and i hate to say this as i really like ben, but i think he is just another superbike rider. and superbike riders dont exactly have the best track record in motogp do they? aside from jumkies boyfriend nicky, sbk guys havent really done squat all.

Probably the 4th or 5th best rider in the world, but not at championship level, yet. Very calculating rider, maybe to much.

I'm not sure if he'll ever be a MotoGP champion, but obviously he'll have a nice career winning multiple races. I can't think of anyone in the pipeline that could be considered the next KR/Lawson/Rainey.

I'm holding off on judgement on Spies till a few rounds into 1,000's. He did real good at Assen ( but I don't know why he can't ride like that everywhere?

)

and

his test on the 1,000ccYam was promising........

Thats quite a list of names for someone to have just forgotten wouldnt you say
<
. Lets give him a little break and say recent Superbike riders, then all the GP fans that have just come on board in the last 10 years or so, wont make such misinformed statements

The Europeans will always have a leg up in GP on track knowledge alone, but Moto 2 should open up possibilities for American riders. There are numerous riders in the states who can thrash the .... out of a 600. If Moto2 ever gets to where they are actually paying riders, you will see an influx of riders from the States. I would love to see how the boys across the pond reacted to the take no prisoners style of an Eslick and other DSB riders. Eslick has bike control that is out of this world, and enjoys fairing bashing probably more than any rider i have ever seen. He always seems out of control to the untrained eye, but he virtually never goes down. That cant be said for the guys who race around him.

.... sounds to me like you want to make-out the dude

Yes he is america's best hope, but he is overrated thats why you're all dissapointed because you're expectations for him were too high, he is doing what i expected. If you really thought he was going to come to the best championship in the world and beat the best riders in the world then your deluded.

People keep saying wait for the 1000's, Lorenzo is already faster than Spies on the 1000's when he was supposedly meant to struggle because he's a 250 rider.

Rootsman I agree with your post on Pieman to date, we all see he comes on last third of the race picking up places but this costs his final placing dearly. Until he gets amongst it from the get GO and fights with the front Aliens he's just as the others after podium places.

Will the 1000's help him to be up front fighting ? well we sure can say CS Pedbot LOlli won't be going backwards and then theres the "what if ????" Duke/VR finally turn it around to be up there as well. Pieman could be in the same boat as he is now next season for the above riders are faster ! consistantly the whole race.

Well next year is kind off a make or break year for spies i reckon, but really at the end of the day no matter if its a 1000 nuts or bloody mopeds there pedaling the usual suspects will be there. . .

America's hope? I'm not so sure I can dig this thread title. As an American, I don't care if we have solid representation in MotoGP. I'm no particular fan of Speez although he seems like a swell guy
<
I'm a fan of GP with or without an American contingent. I have no "hope" for American riders any more than I do for riders of other nationalities. I like personalities and talent. Show me what I like and I'll support a rider from Afghanistan. Nationalism in this case means nothing to me.

Will Speez be a champion one day? I doubt it but you never know. I think he's capable perhaps but the competition certainly has his number presently and they're showing no signs of slowing down.

Im not ashamed to admit it, im a nationalist. Since Spies left WSBK, my enthusiasm for that series has dwindled considerably. I still watch, but its not the same. Unless he is a total ........, i will pull for an American every time in any competition.

Anybody here watch the "Misano Post-GP Test Highlights" video on the MotoGP website?

That thing sounds ridiculous!

I reckon it's not a little to do with the crew and how well they respond to Ben's requirements. Perhaps when the

1000s are in place they will be a better format in which Ben can express his needs. I wonder if the frames will

continue to be as stiff as they have been in the 800 era.
