Guys, realise that this may not be the ideal place and dcertainly is not a topic that we want to see posted but am posting for those that may follow or have heard of the rider involved.

Judd Greedy, a rider in teh Australian Supersport series was tragically killed today in an accident at the second round of the Australian Championsips (ASBK) being held at Symons Plains raceway in Tasmania.

Sources (not all name rider).

There are also reports appearing in local forums from people at the race who witnessed the incident and even competitors from the race involved.

For those unfamiliar, Judd was an extremely talented rider and although no longer young in race terms he had a career within Oz that was starting to take off and get himself recognised.

Best wishes to all involved, family, firends and the other riders injusred in the incident

RIP brother. Very sad, condolences to family and friends.

Frosty, I thought the same damn thing. This is one reason why DMG has upset me about their stance on safety. DMG puts it on the judgement of the riders. They riders are brave and also have pressures to launch a career in the sport they love, its really too much to ask them to race on unsafe tracks because they will do it (at least the young ones needing to prove themselves). Very sad indeed, that part of the track looks very unsafe.

Guys, a track map and aerial photo first.

As an FYI, yes the armco is quite close and as can be seen from the pics above one could well assume or believe that the armco was 'in play' in this incident but that is not the case.

According to reports I have heard from those at the meeting Judd had a highside out of the bus stop section (the lefts prior to the bridge in race direction) and was unable to get out of the way of following riders before sadly being struck. No rider impacted the wall or armco in the incident.

The track itself has been around for a long time (refer source link) and has hosted it's fair share of bike races from national through to club level and like most tracks many a rider has been injured with a few fatalities but it is not considered an inherently dangerous track. The national series has (from memory) only been back a few years as the cost of getting to the circuit has in the past been prohibitive (ferry required across Bass Strait) but nowadays there are freight companies who 'part sponsor' and assist.

The incident is subject to a police investigation and will likely also be subject to a cornonial inquest as is general standard procedure for this type of incident within Australia.

From what I understand the air fence was being used. The governing body (Motorcycling Australia) and the Promoter own an air fence which travels from circuit to circuit.

But just as Gaz has written, the walls, armco had nothing to do with this tragic accident.
I know Judd, he was a racer at heart, it was good to see him at the pointy end especially since he didn't have a ride a few weeks out from the start of the series when the bike manufacturer pulled their sponsorship. He and the Trinder Brothers put together a privateer package at the last minute. The Suzuki he was riding was awsome.

He certainly will be sorely missed. My condolences go out to his mum, his family, his team and all that competed against him.

Totally agree Corr.

And my thoughts and best wishes also go out to Cole who was unfortunately involved and has injuries to overcome, as well as the second rider (unsure who it was).

Always sad but an indication of the respect for Judd is evident in the posts appearing worlwide on forums, facebook etc. He managed to attract or 'touch' a number of people with his personality and enthusiasm for the sport.

Gaz, that would be # 92 Jake Horne. And for those uninitiated Cole as referred to by Gaz is # 32 Cole Odendaal.
Gaz, do you have a report on Cole and Jake? Do you know how they are doing?

I've seen him race, he was better than his budget ever allowed him to be and (by all accounts) a great bloke.

A sad day.

Last I heard, Jake was physically uninjured save for a few bruises and general soreness but Cole had multiple fractures of the arm and leg whilst there were concerns about his hip as well as internal but have heard no more other than his injuries were not life threatening.

Will be at races this weekend and will ask.

That stupid AMA or DMG or whatever it's called series racing at Daytona is very dangerous. If a rider should have some sort of mechanical problem on the oval part of the track on the long straight.....there's nothing there except a concrete barrier to stop them.

Corr, PM sent.

For others who may be interested both other riders involved in this incident are expected to make full recoveries with no long term physical injury.

Cole does have some broken bones but from what I was told today he has no internal injuries and his breaks are not of the 'extreme' variety.

Best wishes to both riders as well as family and friends of all riders involved.
