Anybody remember the old clutch camera?

Not seen it for a few years but you used to get a fair few glimpses of riders using the clutch and the different ways they use it, Rossi tended to use 4 fingers, Hayden 2, Stoner used his middle finger which to me seems sort of odd because if I was going to use one finger it would be the index finger as I reckon I have way more feel than in the middle finger, Mat Mladin used to use the middle finger too so maybe it's an Aussie thing.

Anyway I was just watching some races from 2005-08 this weekend and just saw these clips and thought "oh yeah they used to use the clutch on downshifts" :D

Bugger all leverage with index finger, you're only using half the lever.
4 fingers here. fnarr

I think it was the front brake that Stoner uses only one finger, the clutch needed much more pressure to squeeze.

Yeah exactly that, they don't use the clutch anymore so it's not worth putting a camera there.

I did learn a bit from that camera though. When I raced superkarts lots of people had problems in the wet because they drive like the dry, just slamming the gears down without the clutch but I decided to start trying slutched downshifts and it gained me lots of time. I have a fantastic clip of me drifting my 125 through hall bends in the wet then downshifiting and slipping with the clutch into the hairpin. Only me and the sound of it echoing off the trees there and my mate who was videoing it caught a few spectators saying "...., that guy's ON it!"

I saw that angle recently on Dovi's bike, but it was to show him operating his raspberry ripple rear brake with his thumb a la Doohan.

Ducati put a mini-lever pressed with the thumb for the rear brake

.... that .....
Should've gone for a lovely linked system a la old Guzzis.

Anyway, was being facetious. Barely use the rear brake on ze road.

The rear brake on my bike is so vague, I can lock it up if I'm not careful, so I don't really use it. As far as clutch, two fingers for me.

I thought most race bikes had a thumb operated rear brake now.
