Saw that this morning Mick, sad.

I realise that some (many?) may not like him for what he became due to his addictions, but I have said for many years and continue to say that he remainst he most talented rider/racer I have ever seen live at a racetrack. He was an absolute freak and doing thinks on bikes that were ridiculous at the time and within the era.

His family has posted on facebook as well.

I saw this online and was about the post it here. So sad, especially the fact he was so talented and just threw it all away.

Saw that video of him that came out this week. An absolute tragedy, life is indeed a fragile thing. 25 odd years ago, he had it all, but his addictions robbed it from him. Sad times indeed

The Go-Show was a preternatural talent. It's sad the number of opportunities he squandered during his life, and sad that the paddock could never figure out how to leverage his talents without indulging humanity's base instinct to ban and fire everything that cannot be controlled. Anthony's life definitely took a turn for the worse after this second and third chances in the AMA did not bear fruit.

His talent was a triumph. His life was a tragedy. I hope he finds peace.

Well said. Said this before, but worth repeating: Addiction is NOT, as so many portray it, a moral failing or a question of lack of character, it is a disease, too often leading to jail or death. Sorry to hear about another guy who fell through the cracks.

Thx my dudes.
But really, will anybody argue that in the 90s with the advent of vaporizers and easy to source EPO , we wouldnt have the first 500 cc gp winner with bronchitis? I mean Kenny roberts stole one.

This is a shame.

I believe Gobert in another timeline without the addictions could have won titles in the 2-stroke and 4-stroke era if he had the focus and commitment to racing that would have been needed. He was an unbelievable talent that should have accomplished far more than he did.

What I find incredible is when it came to road racing, he had no actual training/coaching. To go out there and beat guys who had been training their whole life for that moment, and here's Gobert laying waste to them. He was fast on everything regardless of setup.

He really was the Go Show.

Saw this earlier today and man, it just saddened me given what i had seen and experienced with and from him all those years ago.

Sadly, as his mother's post alludes the addictions did not just ruin his career and life, but ultimately cost him dearly. Demons suck when they get that claw into you that cannot be removed.

Seriously saddened for his family as well here for both the obvious loss but also for their suffering being so public because of his profile and persona. Absolute best wishes to his family and friends.

On the other side of the picture, may he now rest without the demon battle.

Anyone know the backstory on this? Dude was 50 yrs old. Why were they beating on him?

"In 2019 he was beaten half to death by a gang wielding baseball bats."
