AMA Barber observations (possible spoilers)

Mladin just owned the place this weekend. He and Spies ran close throughtout race 1, yet Mladin held his teammate off. Mat's hair-raising pass on that lapped bike was something. I was even more surprised when Mat didn't have any harsh words for lapped riders during the post-race interview. I guess he was just too happy to win (he did punch his windshield out on the cool-down lap).

Mladin was just awesome in race 2. It looked like he ran a 100-kilometer qualifying session. His pass on E-Boz was gutsy. I loved watching Mat use up all of the track exiting turn 1. I'd like to add something about the circuit: I love watching bikes on this track.

Tommy Hayden did a good job holding off yates for 4th place in race 2. Tommy apparently has a way to go towards adapting to the Suzuki. Holding off Yates, who probably knows the Suzuki as well as anyone, is a nice accomplishment. Yates looked pretty strong this weekend too; he battled nicely with Duhamel in race 1.

In general, it looked like everyone except for Mladin was having trouble accelerating out of the corners. I saw alot of bikes bucking around under acceleration (and this was just on TV). Did anyone here attend the race?

Finally, for me, the most exciting rider in the AMA right now is Josh Herrin. He's only 16 and he finished second today, coming from 14th. Sure, Hacking, May, and Barnes ran into trouble. However, Herrin still had to beat Roger Hayden, the Attack bikes, and Chaz Davies.

the sbk races were rather dull & processional. it looks like the same ol same ol to me.

herrin is definately 1 to watch! he was ridin the wheels off the r6. that crash in the suppersport race with hacking & may was spectacular & damn scary!
<
may looked like he was jumpin a table top!

To be only 16, Herrin is a stud. One to watch.I was there and the racing was pretty mundane which it normally is at that track. There is not many passing zones and it is very technical. The facility itself is probably the nicest in the country when you throw in the largest motorcycle museum in the world. The track is very nice, just doesnt lend itself to great racing. There was announcment that WSBK is close to reality next year at Barber and he has said he will take the kink out of the back strait to enhance speed and make for more passing.Plenty of hot women for the first sunny warm weekend of the year. The funniest thing i saw was Team Hunter,a race team sponsored by MILF HUNTER.COM.They had Hustler models in their pits this weekend.... That Josh Herrin kid could be the next Hopper or Hayden. But, he does stuggle in qualifying. 14th in Barber, 17th in Daytona. That is his weakness, starting deep in the pack.

After jumping up to the front, E-Boz faded quickly in both SBK races. I wonder what is up with that?

an over rated bostrom brother. thats what.
<

Yeah...over-rated but it is Yamaha's first superbike in a number of years. That thing is still in development.
Once the Bostrom Bros started to go hollywood their talent went away..

Yamahas superbikes seem to have been eating their tires up seriously quickly this season. Look at the world superbike boys in the first few races for example, could this be something to do with it.

don't know tom. nothing was mentioned that i can remember. it is yamahas 1st season back in ama so maybe a little more slack & time are needed.

maybe they should just put R1 fairing on a GSXR, they'd be winning races in no time.
