Is that the first time a substitute rider has won a Grand Prix? I know Kato won a 250 race as a wildcard but I don't consider the support classes as Grand Prix's as such..

Bearing in mind ive only been watching Moto since 2002.. Can anyone enlighten me? If it is a first then thats one hell of a performance

EDIT: Regardless of whether its a first or not.. it was one hell of a performance anyways

thats an interesting question! not that i can remember. oj came close last year in china but my memory sucks so it'll have to be 1 of the stat guy's. teo...skid...Ooostin??????

I've been looking through various web pages for history of it and I can find nothing as of yet so at the moment I take it that he's the first. (Im Moto GP anyway).

Italian commentary said it was the first time a WSB champion won a Motogp race. Not sure about sub riders in general though...

First time or not it was still a great race for Troy. He definitely belongs on a Duc. All hail Mr. Bayliss...

I don´t recall any sub riders winning a race, first guy to do so to my knowledge. Superb ride from Troy!

Excellent. Just shows that WSB riders can be better than Motogp riders. excellent.

I always thought that WSB had the better riders for some weird reason

Yea Loris did have a good race but man Bayliss was only there for that race!!

While I don't quite agree with WSB riders being more talented I was genuinely impressed with the Dominant performance of Troy. I would have like to see if Nicky had something for him. I believe Nicky could have won the race.
This race also proved that Sete has lost his stuff. For Troy to hop on to a basically completely different bike than the one he raced previously and win so convincingly is amazing. Loris has to be annoyed yet happy for the team.

i'd call it safe to say it would be the first time a GP Champ and WSBK Champ of the same year stood on the Podium together too

man ... go bayliss

Katt, you said it was paying off at 88:1 for a Bayliss podium, do you know what the odds of him winning was? Someone is a hell of a lot richer today.

oh Ooost you shouldn't have reminded, i feel like crap, i knew i should've made a bet this weekend ... and i didnt

that 88:1 was on friday morning ...

it was paying $36 for a bayliss/capi podium on saturday after qualifying.
I only remember those two coz they were the bets i wanted to put down.

i want to kick myself.

I´m in the same boat Katt, when you mentioned 88:1 I was tempted to place a bet. Oh well, the show he put on was good enough for me.

Well done Troy.

Baylis is definately a talented rider.

His dominance in WSB proved that, some say it was his extra special Ducati.

But when it comes down to it Baylis loves to win and thats what made the difference in my opinion.

Wheres Richo?........thought he'd be in this thread like a rash!

Id def have to disagree with you there i dont think hayden could have won the race or any other race during the year as a matter of fact, apart from l/seca, on which he has a load more experience on. I can honestly say that if hayden was on the m1 and rossi on the rcv the championship would have been rapped up a long time ago. the m1 is'nt half the bike the rcv is and any one who knows even the slightest about bikes can see this when most of the satelite m1's never make it into the top ten. hayden was lucky to win the champ. fair enough he is a good rider but he aint the best by no means. and his celebration after the race. typical american makes me want to boke? and by the way well done to troy at last a demonstration of the mans true ability.
