I thought you'd be interested to see these times, it sheds some light on the 250 or SBK route to GP.

Jorge Lorenzo SPA Fiat Yamaha Team (M) 1min 34.330 secs

Alex de Angelis RSM Honda Gresini (B ) 1min 34.471 secs

Andrea Dovizioso ITA JiR Team Scot (M) 1min 34.760 secs

Ben Spies USA Team Rizla Suzuki (B ) 1 min 34.8 secs

James Toseland GB Repsol Honda (M) 1min 34.0secs

=6 laps compared to a day, set on 'slower' 990 with used tyres and Pedrosa setup. SET IN 06.

Who says SBK guys are ....? I may be harsh on Spies, but the guy has pace, as does JT, but it's incomparable as those are on 800's and he was on a fat old 990 in 06.

250 riders are in there early 20's only a few years riding experience\ heaps more potential. stoner as a good example.

wsk riders are in thier mid late 20's. little improvement left. edwards perfect example

They've been in the GP paddock for a long time, as opposed to SBK riders none.

Track familiarity is one of the biggest , if not the biggest advantage that 250 riders have over Superbike riders, especially AMA guys.At least the WSB and Gp share some of the same tracks. Why do you think Nicky blew away the field the first couple of years at Laguna. These kids that grow up in 125's and 250's have intimate knowledge of all the tracks so the learning curve is all about the bike. Not figuring out the nuances of every track and the bike at the same time.

Is Stoner your good example for everything

I can think of better 250 riders.

Pedrosa
Lorenzo

both double 250 champions.

I think thats a bit harsh Vermeulen was 23 or a young 24 when he got the Suzuki ride.

Its difficult because wsbk riders are overlooked partly because of track knowledge but this is becoming less important now.

You know I think you are onto something there .... I mean nobody got more "familliar" with some of the tracks than Stoner in 06!! and look where that got him in 07!

We have always known that superbike riders can be fast. Bayliss was fast. Edwards has tested quicker than Rossi several times. Its over the length of a season and the intensity of the competition that the difference becomes more apparent, lets have this conversation at the end of the season and it'll probably look the same as it has done for the last 15 years.

As for JT's time on the 990, the circumstances are far too different to draw any useful conclusions so to me its negligable, especially as he will ride an 800 soon enough.

I was more thinking of that flip he had ... were the camera angle made it look like he had dug himself up out of the gravel.

Yeah, him and Spies should have been given their own bikes and 80 laps worth.

This is going to get little to no replies in here now!

Thats because you and Jumkie are the only people who are foolish enough to think that superbike riders are better than 250 guys. I doesn't have anything to do with your favorite riders does it...............................
