2009 season dark horse?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (james68 @ Feb 4 2009, 04:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>but I don't think Lorenzo would be a dark horse, hell he's one of the top five.

I put Lorenzo down as a dark horse despite the fact that he's one of the big names because i don't think many people realistically expect Rossi to get beaten by his team mate.

You honestly think Lorenzo is gonna out perform Rossi over a season? I'm a Lorenzo fan and even I think thats takes a lot of faith.

i think he can... he got bridgestones now, and a year motogp experience...
im at least expecting him to outperform pedrophile...

I've got no love for Puig's boy - but yer expectin' a lot more than Jorge can deliver me thinks...

depends how lorenzo reacts to the stones...
if he can adapt to it, he wil be flying
<

I would say Capirossi.
He can be counted as a dark horse because he has been dismissed already as old, tired etc. But if the Suzuki performs (and current tests in Sepang seem to indicate substantial progress) he is one of the very few riders who can outbrake Rossi in a dogfight.

I would not consider Dovi, Hayden and Lorenzo as dark horses, they are recognized contenders.
Maybe Kallio could be, but it is his rookie season so that's unlikely.

For sure, nobody will be a 'dark horse' in the spectacular way Stoner was in 2007.

After the Sepang tests, I'd say the dark horses are:

-Dovi (able to win)

-Capirossi (reach podiums)

-Kallio (reach top 6 places or so)

yep capirossi is well impresive the old dog can still throw some punches..

as spectacular as stoner was in 07 other manufacturers have closed that performance gap so the ride aint gonna be so easy now, i think hes gonna have to ride harder than he did in 07 especially this year... if he wins championship again i will be one of the first to congratulate him.

I'm no doubt gonna get pilloried for this, but dark horse my arse..more Shire Horse - if Loris finishes in the top five I'll wire my left testicle to the national grid, and fry the remaining one on The Saturday Kitchen Live. Love the guy - and like Toby and Jules always said, if you could put your mortgage on one hot lap it'd be Cappers, but by mid season I'm afraid several qualifying crashes and the odd domestic with Ingrid will have taken their toll and contrived to consign loverble Lols to the 'also rans' file.

The great thing about a forum is you can revisit a post like this and string me up by the bollocks in a years time...but then again If I'm wrong my knackers'll be history by then anyway

Dovi's the one to watch. Someone said that Loris is demonstrably one of the few riders to out brake Rossi in a race situation, - well add Gibbers to that list, and keep one eye on Andrea. He was frequently a thorn in Jorge's side in 2007, on the underdeveloped Honda, purely down to his prowess on the brakes. Question is, how can you be a dark horse when you're astride 'the pneumatic weapon' that HRC have purportedly created?

Surely even HRC can't make the same mistake twice??

Gibernau for me. He's a proven contender in the sense that he has already performed at a very high level.

I know this post has already been quoted like five times, but I just had to one more.

Its a very ballsy (no pun intended) post.
