weird, one side of the frame is powder coated black, and another side is polished.

I noticed that as well, but then I realized one side has a cover.

If you look closely you can't see the weld seam on the right side of the frame. I guess it could be a super thick powerdercoat that was sprayed to be flush, but I can't imagine they'd go to all that trouble.

It looks like there are mounting bolt covers on the black side as well. The bottom bolt definitely has some extra hardware; it's silver on the left and copper on the right.

do you have the direct source of these image I assume they are japanese, would love to read the info about them also why do you assume it is a 08 one maybe its just the one the test rider always uses?

I found them at racergp.com and were shot by a Mr Kasai in Okayama international circuit, that's all we know for the moment

It's funny that someone mentioned Stauffer, as I'm pretty confident these pics ARE of the M1 he rode when testing for Michelin earlier this season. Now I just have to dig out the magazine with the photos to prove I'm not a NUMPTY!!!!!!!

exactly as above without real confirmation you are just assuming and I learned a new english saying that goes along with that the other day.. when you assume you make an ... out of you and me
<

at least I think thats how it went

They are testing, my guess is they were tuning flex in the frame. The left side needed some work. If they were testing tires, this makes sense.

"Yamaha are expected to test a new bike after this Sunday's race at Motegi."

Lorenzo is definitely doing two days of testing with Yamaha after the Japanese GP.

I guess Aprilia don't have a problem with that because they aren't represented in the top class ... either that or Yamaha paid them some dollars to allow this to happen!

Given that the 250 '07 championship won't be decided at Motegi (unless Lorenzo wins and Dovi doesn't score at least one point) I would think some expensive insurance policies will be taken out by Yamaha in case Lorenzo gets seriously hurt at the test!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE<div class='quotemain'>Valentino Rossi
“Today we made the very first test with the first prototype of next year’s M1. It is not a completely new bike, because the engine is the same as we used yesterday in race, but we tested two different chassis. We used the same engine of yesterday in order to be able to better judge any improvement. One chassis was stiffer than the other and with the stiffer one I felt some vibration, but with the intermediate one my feeling was really very good. Of course this is the first step, but with that in mind it was a pretty good test. Now we must work on the engine for next year. After the last race in Valencia we will test the chassis again, and also a different engine, so I look forward to seeing it there. Today we also tested some new material from Michelin and did some good work, especially with a new front tyre, which gives me a very good feeling.

"Finally, we were also able to understand the problem we had yesterday with the front tyre. It seems that the problem was the temperature; when I re-entered the track after the change the pit-lane was still wet and the temperature of the front tyre dropped drastically. That’s why Colin and I could not ride the bike in the very first laps; we both had the same problem. Now we go to Australia and I am confident we will be competitive there and that we can finish the championship in the best possible way.”
