Hi Folks,
I'm new to forum writing and mainly I just surf them but this seems a cool place to start.

I'm off to Sepang this year with my g/f and needed some advice, so where better to come than here, I thot.
I've read a few peoples posts and the ones regarding the Malaysian GP.

I cant wait now, I'm so excited.

If anyone can give me a heads up on what to expect and what to take to the GP it would really be appreciated?

I spotted the good advice about purchasing tickets direct from the circuit and I'm gonna buy them soon.

Can anyone suggest the best place to sit? Mainstand? Grandstand k1???

hey! welcome to the forum. there was someone on this forum who was going to sepang too, don't remember the name, sorry
<

<
Fancy a few beers track side!?

Tickets seem to be dirt cheap - 8 euros for general entry on Sunday! I'm planning on general entry on Saturday, and prob get in a grandstand for race day (not sure which one yet - prob mainstand as it looks awesome!)

What to expect.....do you mean at Sepang or motogp in general?

enjoy the site!
Ben.

Cheers for the welcome.

Well Ben, I kindda meant what to expect from Sepang? Heat wise, atmosphere, stalls selling rider tee shirts....Beer? they have beer track side!

Now your talking my language.

Hey and welcome...that someone someone mention happens to be me!..lol..
Hey Ben, only Tom80 your asking for a few beers on the side?? I'm off to Sepang too you know

Heatwise...following the weather for south asia countries during the month of Sept ..it would be reali hot... and since M'sia is a muslim country I seriously doubt they would be selling alcohol on the side track though..but hey..its my first Moto GP too..what do I know

So this is your first moto GP too? Im sure we can all meet for a drink.

Not sure about accomodation yet, but with cheap priced tickets I reckon a night in the Sheraton is'nt far off.

Well Sweetheart, you got to get a move on then, I tried to book at PanPac and their are fully book. The only hotel room that they are able to get me would cost me RM808nett per night. Concorde have a MOTO GP package the cheapest with being 4 days 3 nights RM 1035nett (breakfast n dinner included), ordinary room would cost ard rm 207nett. As for sheraton, I would sincerely advice you to check out the distance from the hotel to the circuit as the taxi price ranges from rm100 - rm 35. Personally, I wouldn't advice you to get the cab cause, they will 'murder' you on the charges.
Even if you get a hotel in the KL city, taxi drivers will literally kill you with the prices even thought eh distance could just be less than 10mins. But for hotels aroound Sepang circuit, you seriously have to start your looking now, they are way advance booked.

For me I will be driving up on Fri afternoon, which means I would reach there late afternoon or evening as its a 5 hrs drive from Singapore and my bro finish schl ard 11am. On Friday night, i'm planning to rent a car from the hotel I am staying and probably head out to the club scene in KL city. A word of advice, be careful when you got to KL. Lately lots of reports of girls being grabbed and ..... and murder. My mum I guess was worried thats why in the end instead of just me and my bro, the whole family is going. As for foreigners, I'm not trying to scare you guys or acting all knowing, although I am an Asian, heck, its not safe even for me to go around on my own, that's why my personal bodyguard aka not so little bro is going with me.

Clubs to check out, Zouk KL, originated from my home country, in Singapore Zouk is one of the hottest club around. Been meaning to check out the KL branch to see if it as good. Clubs in KL are happening and worth to check out. Any takers?

Btw, as fasting month is that month, most prob, KL would be a lil 'holy' so don't take offence to what the locals say and just respect the culture.

My first was Donnington 1997, apart from Donnington 9 years straigh,t i've only ever been to a couple more... Assen and Jerez. Sepang would be cool, i'd expect it to be extremely hot, and I highly doubt they'd sell beer trackside, it's a Muslim country.

Welcome to the site too

hey Rina,

Thats really useful info, thanks for posting.

Interesting to hear about the taxi's as I've been told they are dirt cheap (we are planning just to get a taxi there each day) - is this something you know for sure? If so, I'll probably check out trains and stuff. I was going to hire a bike, but was told the traffic is manic and it's probably not the best idea!

Cheers for the club info too!

Man all this talk is getting me excited, its gonna be the best holiday ever! (been saving for it long enough - so it should be!)

9 straight years - thats a good record bud!

They are dirt cheap but if your staying over at KL and going to Sepang, they are going to bled you dry. I asked my friend from KL regarding grabbing a cab from KL to Sepang and she shook her head and advice not too cause, they will in her words 'kill' you on the fare. Btw, like I mention earlier, becareful especially since you guys are "ang moh/mat salleh" (local term for caucasian which no doubt you will be hearing a lot when you there) in terms of being rip off and in terms of safety. Its a relatively nice place just some bad apples just spoilt he whole absket kind of case.

I'll be staying over at De Palma Inn Speang which is like 5mins away from the track. Get back to me about meeting up for dinner or checking out the clubs. Oh and if you guys are into shopping for dirt cheap imitation or just cheap stuffs, Chow Kitt or Chinatown is the place for it. Bargins are like wow.. and you can bargin witht eh shop keeper till the cows come home.

As for taxi, its common knowldge since the MOTO GP and F1 are hot event. You can check out the prices of the transportation on www.malaysiangp.com.my My advice, check if you hotel provides shuttle to and fro. Concorde charges RM40 per way. my hotel charges RM35 to and fro per person. Panpac provide ard RM50 -RM60.

Get back to me Ben

Oh and if your just taking the taxi just to get around KL city, its dirt cheap indeed. Just as long as you get them from your hotel and from the proper taxi stand. DON'T ever take those cabs that hang around and quote ridiculous prices. Better go by the meter. Last year when I went to KL with my aunt, we tried taking those price quoting cab and they quote us RM10 just to return to our hotel When we took a cab from a taxi stand, it cost us RM2.60.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! Be going to Sepang too! Next year!
<

Be sure to enjoy the local hospitality. Rina rin had also mentioned of "the bad apples" so be careful with them too, but generally it's okay.

If you still have time (and money for that), you can also check out singapore. I believe it's just a train ride away.

With the weather, well, it's rainy season for a large part of the southeast asia (especially here!), so expect rain and rain and bucketful of water while you're there. Don't worry, there are still times that it's generally dry.

So with that, I hope you enjoy the race!
