Lorenzo had to adapt to a bike-tyre combination that was super-tested and fine tuned already.
No surprises, nothing much to be invented...

I think one can assert that Lorenzo's package this year (improved factory Yam on improved Michelin tyres) is the very BEST out there - significant improvements in tyres, engine and electronics from 2007 to 2008 which have made the bike faster and easier, as shown also by JT and CE.

His team has full access to Burgess' old setup data to know what you should do with that package at every track; Lorenzo can also study Rossi's 2007 telemetry which tells him where the brake-throttle limit stands more or less for each corner of each track - then he has "just" to risk his own bones trying to do the same, or better.

I'm far from implying it's something easy, but it's a simplified task for a champion like him, one might say. We have proof he's brave, and of course extraordinarily talented, because he does all that - but not much evidence about him being a genius of adaptation or bike tuning, yet.

This does not take anything away from his achievements of course! He's already at the top, and if he can stay in one piece (I'm afraid this conditional is unavoidable at the moment...

) he'll definetly become some One. All the best Jorge!

---BTW: Great topic and post, Yamaka - Thank you

Don't know much about Neil Spalding. But, if what he says is true, I think Rossi is on his way to becoming world champ this year. Got to hannd to to Burgess for coming up with the mods, and Rossi for trusting his crew and adapting his riding style. The amont of progress they have made in the last few races is tremendous.

A very interesting read!

Even though I am a Rossi fan and am impressed by his adaptation to the bridgestones, there is no way that going to a different tyre is harder than going up to a whole new class.

The advantage that these younger guys have is that they are less set in thier ways. For the same reason some of the veterans are struggling to adapt to the 800s (in my opinion having to adapt to more intrusive electronics).

It's like you have been taught to do something a certain way for years and then having to change as opposed to have been taught the correct way from the begining. It is easier to start with a clean slate some times.

I read a study on this

As you get older you gain knowledge but loose creativity. I read the equalibrium of the two averages at age 32. It said most people will have their largest accomplishments in a range of 5 years fore and aft of this age(27-37 for the slower ones).

Just incase anyone cared.

A hitchhikers guide to the galaxy fan, perhaps?

Bridgestone's were made to work with a greater rearward bias than other machines............

I think we all knew Bridgestone were cozy with the 90 degree desmo squad for quite sometime.

Anyway, reading it and seeing the evidence of it makes me realize Nicky needs to make the move he should have made in 2007.

Too late?

I hope not id love to see Nicky at the front.I think Dani is a quicker rider but not by anything like the gap there is between them atm.Honda really have sold him out even when he was leading the championship in 2006 they burdened him the Evolution bike i mean wtf1

Isn't everyone?

Besides, as a racing fan most here that don't know the answere should at least question why there are so many #42 on the different grids.
