WSBK new rules

Ducati Corse is really upset by the way Suzuki and Honda are beating them up in SBK. They consider unfair that the 4 cyl bikes can have the same displacement (1000cc) as their 2 cyl 999.

There have been a few proposals, but Ducati are really only interested in increasing their engine displacement to 1100 or 1150cc.

Currently the 999 gives 195hp and it's pretty much at the limit. The Japs have around 210hp and next year they will be even more powerful.

Some Japanese manufacturers have argued that maybe Ducati should build a 4 cyl bike instead of complaining about the rules.

What do you think?

I understand where Ducati are coming from, it's hard to keep up with a machine that has two more cylinders than you with the same displacement. It must be frustrating, so I can see the argument here. And to ask Ducati to build a 4 cylinder is nearly a sin.

So to answer your question, I don't know what Ducati should do. They only seem to be happy when they have an advantage, obviously they need some sort of an advantage but whenever they get an advantage the 4 cylinder manufacturers complain. I think what WSB has done is fair, by putting a 1000cc cap on engines they leave development up to the manufacturers and if Ducati want to be competitive I recommend developing a V4 because I doubt they will be granted their proposed 1100cc limit. Not without the Japanese manucaturers kicking and screaming and pulling out of the series before the officially re-entered.

The difference between MotoGP and WSBK is that in WSBK the rules are controled by the organisers (Flamini bros) not the manufacturers, so if they consider that giving Ducati that advantage will increase their profit they will do it, even if the Japs complain.

There were rumours of the proposed V4 road bike being homologated for WSBK a while ago,but all gone quiet now.

exactly my thoughts. the GP4. I thought the whole idea was to make 300 of them jus so they can call them a production bike and enter world superbike and clean house...

That project has certainly gone quiet, in the 2003 season they announced the road version would be available as a 2006 model and since then I've heard very little. I for one will be surprised if they actually do it.

Rules are rules. The japanese just built their bikes based on them and are performing better. The Ducati's have their advantages (torque), but they aren't overshadowing the HP disadvantage.

Here's the problem as I am seeing it.. :
Ducati needs to REINVENT THEIR ....... BIKE TO BE COMPETITIVE BASED ON THE RULES!

It's not that hard to figure out. Quit complaining and come out with a 4 cyl. Or, start a ducati cup, literally. Just because their forte/trademark are V twins, doesnt mean they can't come out and start making cool inline 4's. MV is doing it with a lot of success...? Well MV's are alil pricy though..

All ducati need to do is secure the services of a certain Mr Rossi who is renowened for making bikes with a gap in horsepower go fast!!!!

If you put Rossi on a 999 he would be whupping Troys ...(sorry troy) even with a 15bhp disadvantage!!!

Seriously tho i cant see ducati building an in line 4 OR getting the GP rep project going either. Drill is right. its a tough time for ducati and i think they need to decide between WSB or GP because at the moment, both are suffering.

i must agree with ducky on this on. ducati need to shut up & make their bike competative without changing the rules again!

isnt it just typical ducati because they are struggling but if they up the limit and in reply say HRC with their bottomless pit of funds build an in-line four say a 1050cc or 1100 we would be back to square one
last years world champion was on a ducati kind of messes up their argument

What Ducati wants is, 1150cc for twins and 1000cc for 4 cyl.

That would leave Foggy Petrojunk in an awkward situation with his 3 cyl 900cc.
